Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is this great indie game I've found  - it combines FPS, RPG and RTS together to make a very unique and fun combination. And basically, you can play for free this week from July 21-27th. All you have to do is head over to http://www.s2games.com and download the client, then create your free demo account. Demo accounts normally get 5 hours of time and a few restrictions, but that's all gone for this week.

The game works with one player on each team as 'Commander' who plays the game like an RTS, building a base, and buffing his team. The rest of the team are 'action players' and are like the units in an RTS. The players on the ground use a variety of guns, bows, spells and melee weapons to fight with, with the melee combat being the most important. Object of the game is simply to destroy the enemy team's base.

Basically, the game is a lot of fun, and I've spent a lot of time playing it - its only downside is a distinct lack of players. Hope to see you guys in-game!

I always meant to try that game out, maybe this'll finally make me do it.

I hear the biggest server's admin is one of the creators of the game though, and that he bans people at will for doing ANYTHING he doesn't like...sounds scary

Yeah, definitely worth checking out when its free :P

And no, that's not true - there arent server admins banning people for doing anything. In fact, I've only heard of one player ever getting banned, and that was for using mods/hacks by exploiting a security loophole. The guy was banned, and the loophole fixed. This is one of the great things about indie gaming, you can actually chat to the devs, and tell them your concerns, and see them do things to make the game better :P
