At least I can tell you who Guybrush and LeChuck are.
I'm probably going to do some serious damage to my gaming cred here (assuming I have any left to damage), but the only LucasArts PC adventure game I've ever played is LOOM. And I cheesed my way straight through that one using the old Windows Universal Hint System application. Hey, in the days before the Internet, at least it was cheaper than using a hint line.

Anyway, it seems I may be in luck--and if you've misplaced your Amiga, Atari ST, Sega CD, Macintosh, FM Towns, or IBM-compatible personal computer, so are you. The UK's Official Xbox Magazine reports that a German ratings board has let details slip about an Xbox Live Arcade release of The Secret of Monkey Island, one of LucasArts' original and most hallowed adventure games. In addition to kicking off the long-running Monkey Island series, it helped open the door for lots of other LucasArts adventures like Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and Sam & Max Hit the Road. It would be pretty wild if all those games started appearing on XBLA too; there's certainly precedent for it, what with Telltale putting its own new adventure games out on there.

Thanks for the tip, Matt!

#5 Posted by snoopeasystreet (108 posts) -

Great stuff. Now bring on Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.

#6 Posted by Binman88 (3679 posts) -

That's pretty good news for 360 owners. I'm ashamed to admit I have never played Monkey Island either, though I did play a bit of Day of the Tentacle at a friends house back in 1996 I think, when I was seven or eight.

Have you ever played the original two Broken Sword adventure games Brad? Or did you cast them aside along with the Thief series :p

Crazy thing is, I don't know if I'd want this, I played through MI1 and 3, and I remember most of the secrets and puzzles...

I asking only because either I a completely devoid of humor and don't get sarcasm or your sarcasm sucks; either way, please tell my you are kidding? Please!!!!

WANT NOW\!

holy crap that would almost make up for all the shit coming out of lucas arts these days.
#10 Posted by JackiJinx (3083 posts) -

I wish I heard about this sooner...wait.

I haven't played Loom, though I've heard good things about it. The Dig and the MI series are where it's truly at, man. Out of all the classic Lucas Art games, what I really want to play is Day of the Tentacle. Viva la classics!

@Double0hFor: How is that even possible?
#12 Posted by Rain_1 (114 posts) -

Monkey island with Dual Analog?

Unplayable.

#13 Edited by darkjester74 (1545 posts) -

Perhaps Double0hFor's avatar belies his age?  If he is young enough its entirely possible he honestly has never heard of Monkey Island, which would be a horrible horrible tragedy.

Seeing the LucasArts point and click classics make a return to XBLA would be a welcome sight indeed.

If it is a NEW adventure, what do you guys  think the chances are Schaffer or Gilbert are involved?

#14 Posted by Intrepid (187 posts) -

YES! More of this.  More sword fighting and blasting LeChuck with rootbeer.  More heads of the navigator, rubber chicken and used ship salesmen.   Damn, these were awesome games!

#15 Posted by Double0hFor (410 posts) -
@darkjester74: i'm only 18 and my first system was a super nintendo and never really played any pc games (still don't)

That's funny because I played through the whole thing on a modded Xbox 1 with a single analog stick.
#17 Posted by TehFro (25 posts) -

Man, this would be awesome. I only ever played the third and fourth installments in the Monkey Island series, and the third (Curse of Monkey Island) is one of my favorite games ever.

#18 Posted by Kohe321 (3522 posts) -

Oh my god I hope so! One of the best games of all time...

#19 Posted by RHCPfan24 (8610 posts) -

Sweet, more adventure games for the 360 is a GREAT thing. We need all of Lucasart's behind it.

#20 Posted by KingBroly (1645 posts) -

The only that hurt Brad's gaming cred in this article was the severe lack of Grim Fandango being mentioned.

#21 Posted by scallywag179 (23 posts) -

I played through this game more times than I can count.  Love it.

'You fight like a cow' achievement unlocked :)

#23 Posted by Alphazero (1530 posts) -

Brad, you fight like a dairy farmer.

#24 Posted by ohms (31 posts) -

LucasArts were one of the best PC devs 10 years ago. Now they are run by idiots.
It's like the whole Lucas Empire crumbled after the Prequels.

Why release this on XBLA and not DS, or even DSi Ware, FFS!

#25 Posted by dvorak (1495 posts) -

They're probably just licensing SCUMM VM. It's been ported to virtually everything already.

LucasArts vs. Sierra was such a golden age of gaming.  Police Quest got me into gaming and Full Throttle made me stay.  I couldn't choose between Lucas and Sierra any more than I could choose a favourite child..... and omfg I just realised what I will call my children.

Brutal Legend special edition should just include everything Schafer has ever done.

#27 Posted by brocool (701 posts) -

give me GRIM! ..  Im extremely pleased by this, love the series!

#28 Posted by Aeterna (1112 posts) -

Brad man, at least get around to playing Curse of monkey island, that's an absolute must!

#29 Posted by Scoureroflostsouls (1 posts) -

I want this game so much. But I have nothing to play it on. If this came out.. Well..... :D

#30 Posted by killdave (1074 posts) -

Yes oh baby yes !!

#31 Posted by LionHeartWill (5 posts) -

Very awesome!

Would love to see all those classic LucasArts adventure games come to XBLA.

#32 Posted by spiceninja (3052 posts) -

I've never played these games but I do love me some point and click adventure. So I'll be getting this.

#33 Posted by SlimGrim (9 posts) -

Aaaawwwweesoooome!!! I had a serious "thing" for escape from monkey island, always wanted to check this out...

#34 Posted by CoolDrMoney (1978 posts) -

I'd love to see Sam and Max Hit the Road on XBLA or Steam

#35 Posted by TekZero (2638 posts) -

I'd get this, if I didn't already have a copy sitting on my desk.

#36 Posted by Jimbo_N (1197 posts) -

My head exolodes everytime I even THINK about these news.. Its got me more excited than probably any other gaming related news right now.

#37 Posted by deaux (233 posts) -

They should put them all on there.  OOP ACK CHI!

#38 Posted by Tarakun (225 posts) -

STEAM PLEASE

#39 Posted by Hilbert (347 posts) -

I want the 7th guest and under a Killing moon on arcade or all the Sierra click and plays.

#40 Posted by SoulEdgeSlayer (534 posts) -

YEAH!  They actually DO read those emails!  Awesome.

#41 Posted by Bunnyman (211 posts) -

Monkey Island is my Bible of sorts. I wonder how kids today (like Brad) will like it.

#42 Posted by _Horde (838 posts) -

Oh, I want this. More LucasArts games, please!

#43 Posted by mracoon (4914 posts) -

I hope this is just the start and LucasArts will finally put all their classic adventure games on current gen systems. I want to play the Monkey Island series on my DS, is that too much to ask for?

Bollocks, thats impossible. I'm not even a fan of the genre and I know all about this game.
#45 Posted by Absurd (2934 posts) -

Hopefully it does good enough that they decide to make a 5th (that hopefully doesn't suck ass)

#46 Posted by Dyergram (26 posts) -

do want.

Achievement Unlocked: Hold Breath for 10 minutes. 200 points.
#48 Posted by pawsoffury (101 posts) -

I thought that the new(ish) Telltale Sam 'N Max  games were supposed to be released on XBL the same time as Wallace & Gromit this summer.  They even said as much on that awful InsideXbox sendamessage thing.

What ever happened to that?

Not to say that this also wouldn't be an instant purchase, although considering it's not actually that long it should definately be 800 points not 1200. It would have been more sensical for them to bundle 1&2 together so that younger gamers can get the entire /official/ Gilbert-era M.I. story and fill in the blanks in Tim Shafer's past career before they play Brutal Legend.

What, no psn?
