GameStop is now selling a refurbished GameCube for $30. I never owned the GameCube during its prime so I am wondering if I should pick it up now and play some of the great games that have come out for it for cheap. What do y'all think?

#2 Posted by banksrob (1140 posts) -

up to you, it has its games, really depends whether u want to play on it or not.

#3 Posted by suneku (3005 posts) -

if your planning on getting a wii you could play GC games on that

#4 Posted by Hyperesthesiac (199 posts) -

Easy yes. Don't believe the naysayers; the GC had some fantastic games.

#5 Posted by Lairdo (539 posts) -

I used to enjoy playing on my brothers GC......the game selection wasn't that great though.

#6 Posted by samcotts (2388 posts) -

GameCube > Wii.

So yeah, definitely go for it.

#7 Posted by Justaddwater (300 posts) -

I bought a Gamecube with Pokemon XD for £15 (about the same price) granted she didnt know what the game was worth, but i'd  say just look out for personal ads and a great deal will pop up somewhere.

#8 Posted by Caje (139 posts) -

$30 is a great price for a GC, so yes, I would. That's half the price of a new video game now-a-days.

#9 Posted by sdodd02 (763 posts) -

yeah, you should, there is some games worth playing for sure.

Wow, I thought by bones you meant literal bones...Smartest Giantbomber right here!

#12 Posted by Locke (335 posts) -

Buy it, love it,  sleep with it. Alright maybe not. But do pick up Eternal Darkness.

#13 Posted by Nightkiller93 (175 posts) -

I bought mine a while a go for 20 bones try searching around for a better deal although that is a good deal, some great games on the GameCube.

#14 Posted by Atlas (2567 posts) -

Just depends on whether you can get the games. If yes, go for it.

#15 Posted by RabbitKarrot (368 posts) -

The GameCube has some incredible games, such as Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Mario Kart, RE4 and as ZimpanX said above, Eternal Darkness.

You should defiantly check it out. The only down-side is second hand games arnt as cheap as you would expect for some reason...

#16 Posted by BlackWaterCO (1684 posts) -

No, i'd just buy a GCN controller and some Cards and a wii

#17 Posted by Absurd (2932 posts) -

I never really enjoyed the Game Cube when I played it at my friends house, although I guess it's worth a try.

#18 Posted by Xero (183 posts) -

sure why not for that price, gamecube has great games

#19 Posted by Thriteenthmonkey (80 posts) -

Sure, as long as you're not planning on getting a Wii in the near future.  The GC has some great games, it's defiantly worth $30.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

It's worth buying to pick up some of the old games and if you ever get a Wii you'll be set. Besides a controller costs like 20 bucks anyway so you might as well pick up a console anyways.

#22 Posted by Leone (184 posts) -

I agree with all the above- get it if you don't have/plan on getting a Wii and make sure to pick up some of the great games out there for it

Super Smash Bros: Melee
Super Mario Galaxy
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil 4
Viewtiful Joe(s)
F-Zero GX

Geez, the list goes on and on. You won't be disappointed if you get the right games.

#23 Posted by Sentry (4198 posts) -

Uhh; no, lol. If you waste 30 bucks, you have to waste more money on its games, and thats just not worth it.

Or get a Wii lol, and play whatever GC games on it instead, if you even have any.

#24 Posted by Dj (1044 posts) -

I would rather just save up for a Wii. That way you can play those great GameCube games and the new Wii games.

#25 Posted by WilliamRLBaker (4941 posts) -

If you own a wii then no, nearly all the periphrials for the gamecube work on the wii, and all games do as well.
if not then yes get it! there are amazing gamecube games.

#26 Posted by RecSpec (4658 posts) -

I actually did this. It was pretty fun playing random GC games. And if you get a wii, you're set.

Go for it.

#27 Posted by Sayishere (1852 posts) -

Games are pricy for the gamecube nowadays, especially the good ones, unless your willinging to pay preimum for some of the better games, definately do it, very underratted nintendo console

#28 Posted by Icemael (6798 posts) -

No. Get a Wii.

Why would you buy a thing that can only play Gamecube games when you can buy a thing that can play Gamecube games, Wii games and tons of N64/SNES/NES/Genesis/Neo Geo/et cetera games via Virtual Console?

This thread is almost 3 years old people

#30 Posted by Marz (5746 posts) -

You can play gamecube games on the Wii if you have that system.....   if you don't have a wii then sure go for it.  There's some good games on it.

#31 Posted by l4wd0g (2231 posts) -

if you own a Wii it's kind of pointless as they play those games.

lol I wonder if the O. poster is still even on the site
#33 Posted by keyhunter (3209 posts) -

Just get a wii and play the gamecube games in progressive scan.

#34 Posted by fenixREVOLUTION (745 posts) -

Do it! Also pick up Resident Evil for it, you won't be disappointed.

#35 Posted by Shadow (5110 posts) -

The gamecube's a great system. Still, I'd say just get a Wii since it perfectly emulates the Gamecube.

#36 Posted by ofcbilly77 (69 posts) -

I would say definitely get it, but it really depends on what kinds of games you play. Gamecube had mostly platformers/adventure games.

Dude, theMAN hasn't been here in a year, and this thread is even older. Either he already got it or he decided not to. Either way, he doesn't give a damn about this topic any more.
#38 Posted by CoheedFavorHouse (753 posts) -

you can get a wii for a 100, maybe less. might just consider that, pick up a GC controller

#39 Posted by TechHits (1483 posts) -

I find it really funny that people are keeping this going.

#40 Posted by EpicSteve (6909 posts) -

Do you have a Wii? If so, there's no point in getting a GameCube.

#41 Posted by groin (869 posts) -

I tossed my Gamecube in the trash last year.

#42 Posted by craigbo180 (1763 posts) -

You should, but you can just play gamecube games on the wii but what sort of madman does that.

#43 Posted by ProfessorK (846 posts) -

Do you have a Wii? Then no. Are you a collector? Then no. I'm sure you can find a new GC for around the same price.

#44 Posted by TheGreatGuero (8882 posts) -

Yeah, totally. It has a lot of great games, actually. Kind of an underappreciated console. I've spent more time playing my old GC games on my Wii than I've spent playing actual Wii games. Definitely try out F-Zero GX, Animal Crossing, Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Resident Evil 4, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

#45 Posted by Khann (3138 posts) -

Shows how many people actually read a topic before posting.

#46 Posted by Apparatus_Unearth (3542 posts) -

I bought one recently so that I could play all the Resident Evil games, and since I've never played Zelda I figured that would be a good place to start. I'm super happy with that decision, I would recommend it.

#47 Edited by MOOImAPigg (36 posts) -

Yes, BUT! You should Save up for a wii. Game Cube games are compatible with the Wii, which I find to be and EXCELLENT feature for the Wii. So now I can play Gamecube favs like Mario Kart DOUBLE DASH and Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit and Luigi's Mansion. But if you dont have the money for the Wii, Gamecube is a definet. I guess it depends if your going to play it or not.  But yes It is worth it. Gamecube has its awesome games so Its a yes.

If you don't have a Wii, definitely.
