Personally I think you should get Left 4 Dead but I have yet to play either game. I doubt if the posters above have played both games so I would say wait for reviews

I've played both demos, and I assume several other posters here have. And it doesn't take a genius to make an educated decision based on developers.
Left 4 Dead looks like a good buy, I'm downloading the demo - you should too, as demos are available for both games, I believe.
Call of Duty World at War is getting bad reviews from the public, unless you're sure you'd like a COD game over a zombie shooter, then L4D is the better choice.

A public which has a opinion tainted with Treyarch hate. The public played a MP beta, that's all. The actual reviews based on the overall finished game are now coming in, and they are very positive.
If you want Cod again , go back and play cod4 cuz I'm sure you own it and its far better than the trash that is WaW. Left 4 Dead for sure, its not even a competition.
Left 4 Dead is utterly amazing. Best co-op I've ever tried in any game, since you actually have to work together. Not by choice, but because you have to. Brilliant game design.
Not saying the other games are bad, but Left 4 Dead will give you a new experience. You already know what you get when you buy a Call of Duty.

Yeah, well it's the public that counts, I think, because Unreal Tournament 3 got great reviews (personally I loved the game) yet it never took off, so no one wanted to buy a game with no community.

Hes actually telling you to get COD:WaW, see, there are Nazi zombies in WaW.
Having played neither yet I couldn't say. But if I were going to ask for just one of those I would choose Left 4 Dead and get around to CoD later. You could always get your CoD fix with 4 until you were able to get WaW.
I wouldn't say either of those to be honest, there's loads of better games out/coming out. I'd say Gears 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Banjo 3 are all better choices. Last Remnant most likely as well if you're into jrpgs
