Good question. If you "really want" to than why wouldn't you?

It depends. Your question is very general. What kind of games do you mean? I mean if you missed some great PS2 games like God Of War I and II, Shadow of the colossus, any of the GTA games  and such ......... then o ahead. but if you missed games like Madden 04 and  or Need for speed underground then don't bother. :P

If you have an older PS3 that can play them then sure. Or if you still have your PS2 hooked up I guess. Check what model your PS3 is if that's what you'll play them on though becuse they discontinued Backwards Compatibility in the non-launch ones.

If you really like something and can afford it then get it. But as previously said, if the game titles you want arent that amazing, then dont.

If there are games on the system that interest you, how is it NOT "worth it"? They aren't going to be giving those games away for free or anything. You can get just as much entertainment value, if not more, from PS2 games than you can from PS3 or Xbox 360 games.

If you want the games, yeah, buy them. I still buy a lot of ps2 games, specially since they are much cheaper now.

Just way out the pros and cons, I think. See how many games you would want on a new system compared to all the games you want on the PS2. Also, think about if online play is important for you. I think that may help weigh your decision.

Buy the games that might disappear soon. Pick up your copies of Psi-Ops, Psychonauts, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis (my personal fav, try to find it though!), and Metal Gear Solid 3, because that is surprisingly running slim from where I looked.

Those are the good, overlooked games from yesteryear, but also look at the few, good new PS2 games like Persona 4 and Yakuza 2. So, basically, don't buy the multiplat games like Tomb Raider and Mercenaries 2 (not that one for sure).

And, why not? They are still fun to play even today.

If it helps any, I have bought more PS2 games last year than PS3. The PS2 games that I did play last year, were among my favorites. It is completely worth it to still buy PS2 games, especially because they are: 1) cheap, and 2) Like you said,"They will not be around forever".

Don't you have a PS3?

If you have a 40GB sell it and buy the 80GB then you wont need a PS2

By all means.... YES! Some of the best games ever found their way to the PS2. Just be prepared for the step-back in graphics.  Not as shocking as the PlayStation to PS2 conversion, but still somewhat noticeable.

"
But many have aged

And the best can ALL be played on an 80GB triple

Sure why not you know? I just picked up 6 PS2 games like 2 weeks ago and I have a Wii/PSP/DS/360 and am buying a PS3 next month. The console had a ton of great games, no need to stop playing it until you get all the games you want.

If you haven't picked up Persona 3 FES and Persona 4, you haven't truly gamed. If that's a word that even exists. Seriously, awesomely unconventional turn-based JRPGs are your friend.

Also, don't even bother picking up a PS3, considering that some of the best games on the PS2 don't even work properly on it, such as the Sly Cooper games, the Ratchet and Clank games, and Odin Sphere. Wouldn't surprise me if the Persona games don't work on it either, they're obscure titles...

The newer PS3 models have no PS2 compatibility whatsoever. I sucked because my PS2 doesn't work anymore and I just got a PS3....and Persona 4. Still waiting for a way to play it.
