So what do you guys think of the box art of Final Fantasy 13?
Personally, I think every game should have Mike Epps on its front cover with a big cheesy grin and two thumbs up. But yeah, that looks good too.
This. I want a good FF game for a change!" Pretty plain, but bleh, not too fussed with the box-art of games. Its what inside that counts! =P "
i actually really like this box art. it still has the simplicity of the old FF boxes while still finding a way to interject some energy and contrast with Lightning.
"it still has the simplicity of the old FF boxes while still finding a way to interject some energy and contrast with Lightning. "Valid points.
One of the great things I love about computers nowadays is photo creation/editing/manipulation.
Once we get some concept art out there, or even fan art, those often end up looking better than what the publishers dish out.
It's interesting to see how overtime, overseas Final Fantasy box art has mimicked the Japan box art. The simplistic white background with the Amano artwork has been a staple of the series for years, but watching the last releases of Final Fantasy III and IV DS, it's clear that they finally realized that we digg the look too.
As for this box art: It's great. Not amazing, but it works.
You got Lightening and you got the logo. Nothing too over-the-top, no confusing movie style poster awkwardness. It sticks with the style that's been laid down before, and I think it works quite well.
For those of you who decry it horrible, may I interest you in the following:
...and of course...
Yeah, Final Fantasy XIII's box art is just fine. We will all live.
" Comparatively, it's crap. "Do you mean the old style is crap, or the new style? I personally prefer the old style. It gives me more of a mysterious feeling with the minimalistic box art with faded artwork.
Also, it's shiny there. Mmmm
It sucks
. A lot. I can't believe they abandoned the tradition of Amano art with the game's title for the PAL and JAP releases. We all know the Americans get very sad if the cover does not show the main character and at least 1 weapon, but the fact that they have now adapted that... sad. While it's not terrible it's trying to do two things at once, but lackadaisically. FFX had great box art because it showed off Tidus in a serene landscape. This is just sort of blank and boring with her tacked on. Then they are trying to throw in the traditional style with the logo, but it seems pretty lacking. Personal favorite of the old style is FF12. But again they could have done worse.

Anyway, I would definitely prefer if they just kept the art how it was. If this game was supposed to be groundbreaking in terms of Final Fantasy gameplay, then sure, change it. But It's not... so... don't.
" I like it, simple and straight to the point. Plus she's showing some good leg:p "Only on the 360 version.

I guess its a new generation now.
"
It's miles better than previous US box arts (but is it confirmed that this box art is making it to the US? That box has the EU rating on it, are they not going to Americanise it up for the US market?) but it sucks compared to previous Japanese/European box arts. I much prefer the simple logo on a white background. It makes it stand out compared to every other box art that are trying to have action packed front covers.
" Could look better. "That's my sentiments. I don't hate it but...meh, it could be better. I certainly don't think it will win any awards for design. In fact, it will probably be forgotten by most people in a couple of years because it is so unremarkable.
And the Japanese don't always have the better artwork. Case in point, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
