I like it, simple and straight to the point. Plus she's showing some good leg:p

I like the Japanese box art better, but I don't really care about box art in general.

Could look better.

Personally, I think every game should have Mike Epps on its front cover with a big cheesy grin and two thumbs up.  But yeah, that looks good too.

Take away the PEGI or whatever and we're all good.

Pretty plain, but bleh, not too fussed with the box-art of games. Its what inside that counts! =P

At least it's better than Mass Effect.

This. I want a good FF game for a change!

i actually really like this box art.  it still has the simplicity of the old FF boxes while still finding a way to interject some energy and contrast with Lightning.

Valid points.

One of the great things I love about computers nowadays is photo creation/editing/manipulation.
Once we get some concept art out there, or even fan art, those often end up looking better than what the publishers dish out.

It almost looks like an Apple ad to me.  Looks fine anyway though.

#13 Posted by Bones8677 (3210 posts) -

Not too bad, but I'm still waiting for the North American box art. ^.^

#14 Posted by AgentJ (8778 posts) -

It's sort of plain. I'd rather there was some sort of background. As it is it's like they just pasted some character art on the front and called it good to go

This.  I am so bummed about the ME2 box art considering how great the first one was.  At least I'm getting the CE so I don't have to look at it.

Comparatively, it's crap.
#17 Posted by ShaunassNZ (2128 posts) -

It is GOOD.

It's interesting to see how overtime, overseas Final Fantasy box art has mimicked the Japan box art. The simplistic white background with the Amano artwork has been a staple of the series for years, but watching the last releases of Final Fantasy III and IV DS, it's clear that they finally realized that we digg the look too.

As for this box art: It's great. Not amazing, but it works.
You got Lightening and you got the logo. Nothing too over-the-top, no confusing movie style poster awkwardness. It sticks with the style that's been laid down before, and I think it works quite well.

For those of you who decry it horrible, may I interest you in the following:

Yeah, Final Fantasy XIII's box art is just fine. We will all live.

Umm, dude, this is the North America box art.

Do you mean the old style is crap, or the new style? I personally prefer the old style. It gives me more of a mysterious feeling with the minimalistic box art with faded artwork.
#21 Posted by Romination (2775 posts) -
@RaikohBlade: I'm saying the new style. The old style there for FFIV is gorgeous as hell, understated, and it works. It's art. It would sell me just based on how it looks.

Also, it's shiny there. Mmmm

Not excellent but still good, it's simple and slick.

It sucks

Front cover of Final Fantasy VIII (AU) for PlayStation
. A lot.  I can't believe they abandoned the tradition of Amano art with the game's title for the PAL and JAP releases. We all know the Americans get very sad if the cover does not show the main character and at least 1 weapon, but the fact that they have now adapted that... sad.

Final Fantasy X PAL
Front cover of Final Fantasy XII (EU) for PlayStation 2

Front cover of Final Fantasy VI (EU) for PlayStation
Front cover of Final Fantasy IV (EU) for Nintendo DS

While it's not terrible it's trying to do two things at once, but lackadaisically. FFX had great box art because it showed off Tidus in a serene landscape. This is just sort of blank and boring with her tacked on. Then they are trying to throw in the traditional style with the logo, but it seems pretty lacking. Personal favorite of the old style is FF12. But again they could have done worse.

#26 Posted by JJOR64 (18907 posts) -

I think it sucks dick.

#27 Posted by Capt_Ventris (588 posts) -

Its all right . Simple and clean (oh wait thats something else) it works

#28 Posted by vidiot (2737 posts) -
@Meowayne: Really? Amano's artwork is still there, the white background is still there: They just added Lightening, that's it. I'm not seeing the hate here at all. It's not phenomenal, but it works.
#29 Posted by kingclaw (757 posts) -

The title is a little small, but its just ok

This. I liked FFX's box art. Not to say to FFXIII box art sucks but it could be better...

Looks to me like Square-Enix simply slapped a render of Lightning onto a white background and called it a day. Oh wait, that is exactly what they did. An abomination. I could manage with just the Blu-ray retail disc.

@Dark_Jon: The LCE Mass Effect 2 case is awesome however.

#33 Posted by get2sammyb (6412 posts) -

Let's be honest, it's a bit rubbish isn't it?

#34 Posted by Vorbis (2749 posts) -

Would be better without lightning and the logo in the centre.

@quantumshift5: Is she holding one of those crimping tools for attaching connectors to Ethernet cables?
#36 Posted by HitmanAgent47 (8576 posts) -

I don't care, just give me the game already and release it.

#37 Posted by FunExplosions (5407 posts) -
@Dark_Jon: Eugh. Man, haven't seen the ME:2 box art yet... that's horrible. What's wrong with their faces? Looks like they G-modded it.

Anyway, I would definitely prefer if they just kept the art how it was. If this game was supposed to be groundbreaking in terms of Final Fantasy gameplay, then sure, change it. But It's not... so... don't.
#38 Posted by guiseppe (2837 posts) -

Somehow it doesn't look official. But I like it.

#42 Posted by Mushir (2389 posts) -

Looks like a fan box art. And not a really good one.

#43 Posted by acecards (58 posts) -

it would be a lot better if was just the artwork in the center but it's ok

#44 Posted by Cerza (1653 posts) -

Get rid of Lightning so it's just the FFXIII logo on a white background and it'll look like it should.

I was disappointed that they never continued with the Amano art. I guess its a new generation now.

@quantumshift5: So is that why it has the European rating system score on it then?

It's alright, I would prefer one that shows off some of their amazing vistas though.
#47 Posted by empfeix (774 posts) -

I really like it, she is beautiful

#48 Posted by MattyFTM (14342 posts) -

It's miles better than previous US box arts (but is it confirmed that this box art is making it to the US? That box has the EU rating on it, are they not going to Americanise it up for the US market?) but it sucks compared to previous Japanese/European box arts. I much prefer the simple logo on a white background. It makes it stand out compared to every other box art that are trying to have action packed front covers.

@Meowayne: The japanese box art is still just the text with the art behind it.

I hope here in the UK we get the JP style, as we have had with all the previous games. I've always liked the simplicity.

 Europe - America - Japan
That's my sentiments.  I don't hate it but...meh, it could be better.  I certainly don't think it will win any awards for design.  In fact, it will probably be forgotten by most people in a couple of years because it is so unremarkable.

And the Japanese don't always have the better artwork.  Case in point, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
