I have a mate who I am always trying to introduce new games to and have given him lots over time but only a few have stuck. His fave of all time is Resident Evil 4 which he has played hundreds of times, but he has also enjoyed, Portal 1 & 2, Uncharted 2, Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2 and various Zeldas.

He has finally got an HD TV to go with his XBOX and is asking me for recommendations. I have given him so many good games in the past which haven't worked (this may be becuase playing things like RDR on stand-def is pointless) but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas? Basically from the list above he seems to like, straight ahead, classic feeling, kind of linear games with systems and action you can really master through lots of playthroughs. Any ideas for what I can offer?

Have you tossed RE5 his way? What about the rest of the Wii Metroid games?

@leebmx: Dead Rising OTR is pretty cheap now if he like Capcom Zombie games that are made to be replayed.

Seems like he knows what games he likes. Dead Space 1 if he liked RE4 though.

Maybe Devil May Cry 4 or the HD collection. Gives you lots of reasons to replay it with upgrades, new difficulties, different weapons.

Sorry went to the cinema. Yes we played RE5 together Co-Op and he thought it was OK. No Wii.

I think Dead Space, Bayonetta and Vanquish are the best options with maybe some Batman. Prolly what I would have suggested apart from maybe the Platinum games. Thanks for all the suggestions, thought I may as well ask as sometimes people come up with the odd thing you have forgotten.

Arkham Asylum.

It's very Metroid-like in it's design and has the best melee combat in the business.
