Irrational games is 2K Boston, right? It's probably just going to be some viral marketing for BioShock 2. It would be very weird for a 2K to revisit the Irrational Games brand for announcing a new game or something like that. After going to all the trouble of re-branding them to 2K Boston, I can't imagine them using the irrational games name for anything other than some silly viral marketing thingy to tap into peoples nostalgia.
Actually, ignore what I said in my previous post. A little bit of digging on the interweb uncovers this article from 1up, confirming that 2K Boston are returning to their Irrational Games name. And if that is the case, they may well be announcing something new at the end of the countdown. They say it's just going to be behind-the-scenes stuff, but it seems silly to go to through a rebranding, and a countdown just for that. And also, it's incredibly weird to go to all the trouble of re-branding them to 2K Boston, just to revert to the Irrational Games name a short while later. Heck, they didn't even release a game under the 2K Boston name, did they? They were still Irrational when Bioshock came out, and they haven't released anything since. This is really really weird.
UNLESS this is all just a part of some Bioshock 2 viral marketing. What if they're trying to get us hyped up that 2K boston are changing their name back, and they might announce something new, just for it to turn out to be some weird viral marketing thingy for Bioshock 2. Now there's a conspiracy theory for ya.
2K Marin and 2K Australia are the main 2 working on Bioshock 2 though so who knows. Glad to see them going back to the old name though, I for one am sick of the corporatization of game studios, I feel that having a bit of originality and uniqueness to the studios is much better then having 5 different "2K" studios.
I don't think it has anything to do with Bioshock 2 because 2K Australia is making it, not 2K Boston. 2K Australia is made up of people from 2K Boston but they spilt up so that 2K Australia could make Bioshock 2 and 2K Boston could do something different.
