Right off Game Informer's website

Sony is considering offering a premium online subscription option to go with its current free service. "We are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model," said Sony's Kaz Hirai, "offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services".

         So.... whould you pay?

Depends on what premium entails/includes.  If it's something like a free movie download monthly or something similar I'd consider it.

If they keep a free subscription and a chance to upgrade, then thats a great idea. As the others said, it depedns on what members get. Something like Hulu or free MMOs that are better than Home would be a nice start.

It'll still be free to play online. Just FYI.

It's times like these when I wish I went to business school, so upon graduation I could open up a bond-rating agency, and provide a counter to all the agencies that rate stock based on subscription numbers, by rating stocks based on the profitability of a company.

Subscription fees issued by corporations for already-extant services are ethically dubious, because it turns companies into pyramid schemes, with the investors at the top, and the 'subscribers' at the bottom, under-writing (sub-scribing to) a company's losses.

If paying $50 a year for consistent reliable multiplayer services that aren't going to crash when big games launch, I'd pay it (and already do on one platform).

This is a move to make the PSN userbase comfortable with subscription-based content, so that sometime in the future, they'll charge for online play as well. You watch and see, the next console will be this way. I don't blame them either, since it's so profitable, but... my wallet. :(

If it makes the PSN as good as XBL, I'm all for it.
