Your Move Sony

#2 Edited by ArtisanBreads (3882 posts) -

haha oh man Killers and Elijah Wood. Perfect. Really sums up the period.

But I'm hoping its mroe substantial and I don't see how it will be so produced like this. Wouldn't be shocked if it was a lot of hot air though.

#5 Posted by LibrorumProhibitorum (349 posts) -

God this is terrible. Everyone cheering at a box then suddenly virtual The Killers.

#6 Edited by SlashDance (1828 posts) -

Haha I forgot about that. I was probably too excited to notice how silly the whole thing was at the time.

I'm fine with silly, but that's not really Sony's style.

#7 Posted by GrantHeaslip (1652 posts) -

Oh man, I’d forgotten how dumb that was.

#8 Edited by Pr1mus (3951 posts) -

Also, J Allard is so hip-hop.

My goodness...Pimp My Ride? The Killers? It is like being time traveled to the worst part of 2005.

Before the housing market popped...

#12 Posted by Winternet (8025 posts) -

This is why the financial crisis had to happen. Things were getting way out of control.

#13 Posted by ObsideonDarman (652 posts) -

My God... so bad. Audience seems incredibly fake also.

#14 Posted by BoG (5191 posts) -

I wasn't cool in high school, and this has just informed me that it's ok, because cool didn't exist in 2005.

Sony got it, in the bag, right? "SO-O MUCH, DUBSTEP." Sony, 2013

#17 Posted by Sooty (8082 posts) -

I wonder what annoying YouTube "stars" will be roped in for the E3 shows this year.

#18 Posted by GunstarRed (5305 posts) -

I like the graphs to make sure you know gaming is cool at the start.

360 games used to look like shit.

#19 Posted by ChinaDontCare (111 posts) -

This is so terrible I must continue watching

#20 Posted by Eidderf (507 posts) -

I hear Martin Freeman is showing up at PS4 launch, the next-gen of hobbits.

#21 Edited by Mrsignerman44 (1100 posts) -

When everyone started cheering at the xbox and the camera kept cutting everywhere, I lost my shit.

#22 Edited by Nilazz (613 posts) -

Perfect Fucking Dark!

The Killers had more screen time than the games.

The Yogscast or TotalBiscuit I'm guessing, though I actually like TotalBiscuit

#24 Edited by Grimluck343 (1149 posts) -

Man if Martin Freeman is there that would just be perfect. Fucking perfect.

#25 Posted by awesomeusername (4219 posts) -

I had to stop before 30 seconds before my mind exploded from complete terrible-ness. I rather eat vomit than watch that again.

Disclaimer: I like The Killers.

#26 Edited by selfconfessedcynic (2568 posts) -

When that happened, I remember downloading the video and making all my non-gamer friends watch it trying to show them HOW BIG A DEAL IT WAS.

Man.

I still vastly prefer the Sony PS3 reveal at E3 though.

#27 Edited by RobertOrri (1139 posts) -

Such overproduced garbage.

#28 Edited by Demoskinos (15019 posts) -

I remember that I watched it when it aired and promptly flipped out about Perfect Dark Zero. I still don't think that game got a fair shake. It doesn't hold up now days for sure but at launch it was a great game IMO.

Nothing will top the sheer Lynchian twist of 599 US Dollars.

Oh man Jay Allard

Giantbombers > The Killers. Who are now Nickleback.

The Killers? Pimp My Ride? Gosh, I guess 2005 was a long time ago, wasn't it? Realizing that I was ten years old at the time is frightening to say the least.

EDIT: Oh my sweet jesus, those Pimp My Ride guys have me rolling in laughter. All this mid-2000's music just makes me laugh more too.....

#35 Posted by GERALTITUDE (3430 posts) -

I never knew this happened.

Fuck xbox.

#36 Posted by Vonocourt (2141 posts) -

Man, I remember watching this...weird to think that i got as much info skimming through that video now as I did watching the broadcast in its entirety eight years ago.

#37 Posted by MachoFantastico (4794 posts) -

God I forgot about this, yeah the Killers music made me chuckle.

To be fair, this was when Microsoft's gaming division had a face and personality and weren't just boring businessmen in suits.

I'm having a very similar 'Oh shit this happened when I was eleven" moment.

#39 Posted by rachelepithet (1391 posts) -

Wtf was that Britta (from community) carrying the bag to the stage at 2:15?

#40 Posted by YOUNGLINK (552 posts) -

The Killers kick ass!

#41 Posted by rachelepithet (1391 posts) -

Also, culture hasn't changed much since '05. MTV was, even at that time, a dead network that only appealed to the most mindless pregnant teens and sorority girls. Abercrombie and American Eagle and Aeropostle and American Apparel are still the default jailbaity look for trendy youth, today. Hipster indie rock bands with fake European 80's style revival (or accents) that combine the "band you never heard of unless your DEEP and artsy" credibility with the sell-out-the-arena shameless promotability of mainstream Hard Rock bands. The European movie washed out unsaturated pastel colors, the notion of tattoos being for kids to "express themselves" rather than Harley Dads to scare black people. The times havent changed like they did from the Surfer Cut, flamnel shirt, Extreme marketing of e 1990's. Yeah, it was Daft Ounk rather than Skrillex, The Killers instead of... Vampire Weekend, Modest Mouse instead of Gotye. But culture is pretty much still the same.

#42 Posted by Hippie_Genocide (642 posts) -

Whatever, nothing will top Sony's E3 reveal in '06 for sheer entertainment value.

Oh god, why are people calling it the "Mid 200's"!?

Is that a thing? Because I just think "the year 200? wtf?" (then my mind iterates through 1200, 2200 and only then realises wtf is going on).

I prefer "the early 2000s" or, if you must, "Mid 200Xs" - but w/e.

Anyway - I am going to rewatch this whole video right fucking now.

#48 Posted by SathingtonWaltz (2053 posts) -

Microsoft changed gaming so much back in 2005, I'm not sure how many younger people will understand just how much.

It may be flat out wrong, but at least they're not calling it the "naughties". Fuck that term.

100% agreed.

Update on that rewatch: Oh my god that video was some seriously concentrated deja vu . Perhaps most telling is I realised how much I still like The Killers from that era and even 1, 2, Step by Ciara. Music from back then is still good, yo!
