StarCraft II Officially Delayed To 2010

CEO Bobby Kotick called Activision's fall game release slate the strongest yet, "based on some of the industry's most successful franchises." Upcoming games include "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and "Guitar Hero 5" as well as other music games such as "Band Hero" and "DJ Hero."

But the company delayed two games -- "Singularity," a sci-fi first-person action game, and "StarCraft II," into 2010.

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

We'll be bringing you more on StarCraft II from BlizzCon later this month, but for now, here's what was going on the last time we got a look at the game.

I don't care, I hate blizzard and think they're the most over rated game dev in the world.

I am not surprised but 2010 is going to be too big. I would have rather spread the love equally between both the holiday and Q1 2010 seasons.

I didn't even know it was slated for fall. Oh well, L4D2 and MW2.

Awwh. Man if all this stuff that was supposed to be out this year does infact come out early next year I am going to have to take out a small personal loan at the bank.

I get this sinking feeling like diablo 3 is still years from being ready. Like... 2 at least. Blizzard just loves to make its customers sweat it out. It's what makes blizzard, blizzard though.

DAMN IT

There are enough games coming out the end of this year and the beginning of 2010 to not really even care that much about the delay, but it still does suck. Korea is probably pissed though.

Wow.  This just means 2010 is going to be a financial bloodbath for everyone.

Well this is certainly a bummer.  Oh well, there are still some great games coming out this Fall.  Next year is going to be a burden on my wallet as well.  Good thing I am guaranteed a job through May.

Great! i'll spend even more time not giving a damn about this game. and then it'll be released, and i'll still not give a damn....and when the other 2 get released, well, we'll all probably be dead by then, so, who cares!

2010 Q1 is apparently going to be pretty expensive.

Good. I want to get a new PC for the new Blizzard games, and this lets me save up some more money. :)

One thing I'm sure about all of this: it'll be worth the wait. By that time I'll have a decent computer. ;)

  
you know Dark Void, Singularity, and Alan Wake aren’t exactly going to have much "breathing room" if Starcraft 2 and Splinter Cell come out in the same quarter.

Not a shocker in the slightest, but I'm nonetheless beyond disappointed. It seems like the game is almost done, anyway; but then, if you remember how Warcraft 3's release went, they had a near full product multiplayer beta that ran for like, a year, and evolved ridiculously in that time-frame. So long as Blizzard makes it as good as they can make it, then I'll be happy. Hell, we've waited this long for the game already.
 
Though 2009 looks like the most dead year for gaming ever at this point.

I'm pretty bummed, but this is really good news for Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends.  Gives those games some time to develop a devoted base before SC2 lands.

Damn, but I kind of saw this coming.

God damn it.  Ah well I waited over 10 years, few more months isn't going to kill me I suppose. 

Its Blizzard, what do people expect. If it means they improve the game and fine tune it then I'm fine with it.

Admit it, a Starcraft game wouldn't be a Starcraft game if its not delayed at least 4 times! :D

They never said it was going to be released this year, only that they hoped it would.

Oh well. I'm sure that the entire nation of Korea can continue to play Starcraft 1.

Wow X-mas 09 is really turning into the worst X-mas for video games in a long time.  Funny how all these companies think we're all going to be load after X-mas to buy all these games in the start of 10

Blizzard announce games too early ffs. We've been waiting so long for this and Diablo 3is even longer away!

So many "2009" games being pushed back to 2010 this year... but heck, it's kinda a gewd thing, as I'm still working on my 2008 backlog :'( 

I don't care about Blizzard so this does not affect me.

While I don't mind the wait and am sure that SCII will be fantastic, I really wish Blizzard would have done Diablo 3 first. I'll deffinately buy both games on launch day, but I loves me some Diablo. /sigh
