StarFox: Evolution of AirWolf?

I'm not sure why I didn't think of it sooner, but I just wanted to know if anyone knew if people at Nintendo watched one too many episodes of AirWolf and said, "Fuck wolves, and fuck the air. Let's take foxes to space!"
