Streaming Video Performance
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Streaming seems to work fine for me. Dublin, Ireland.
One slight "problem" I encountered is not being able to download the videos from the video page, but rather having to use the forum topic to do so. I'm using the Firefox add on "download helper/dwhelper", which usually recognises flash videos as soon as they start playing. That shouldn't really be a concern of Giantbomb though, I guess.
I'm getting hiccups and cut-off at the end of all the newer videos.
I'm in British Columbia, Canada, on wireless.
" London (UK), modem? Video gets stuck buffering at some points. At other parts, the video will just cut near the end. "Yup, I get the exact same problems.
EDIT: Sorry I was thinking about the Ustream things you guys have been doing, which has slight hiccups here and there. But the videos for the main sites work great. I have never experienced any problems at all, except I've gotten the occasional "duder" when everyone else got them.
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Connection: 100MB/s down. Wireless g-network (Google Chrome 4.0.249.43)
Slight Hiccups/ Constant Buffering
It seems that some videos will run perfectly fine...the ones around the 10-15 minute mark, but anything over that i have to pause and let it buffer for 10-15 seconds to watch another 30-60 seconds of the video.
Location: PA, USA
Connection Speed: Verizon tells me i have a 1mb connection but it usually hovers around .7mb or so.
Usually watching on my laptop wirelessly, but watching on the wired computer dosent seem to help any either.
Also i usually like to let the videos sit for a while, and i have noticed with this new system the videos just die halfway through if you let them sit for too long.
Belfast (uk) 2mb broadband
have problems with constant buffering and the videos dont play till the end
Albuquerque, New Mexico
5Mbit down
It works okay for a while then will get stutter a ton with "loading..." on screen, and like many others the end will cut off for me.
Birmingham, England. 10mb connection. Slight hiccups.
For the most part it's been fine, but like a couple of people here, the video is cutting off somewhat abruptly before the end. Usually just a couple of seconds (cutting the last word out), but on the Darksiders Quicklook it ended with about a minute left. Plus side of the new tech meant I could scrub right back to that moment easily ;p
I'm going to school at UCLA and it works fine except for the occasional loading that happens. I'm running the school internet, which downloads videos and games off steam at about 5MB/sec. I liked the old system better =]
10Mb cable via Gb Ethernet.
Saint Johnsbury, Vermont (it's like I'm the only person not living in an actual "city"!)
Definitely experiencing interspersed hiccups of buffering throughout videos. There's one big burst at the beginning and then random intervals during. Also cuts off before the end frequently.
Miami, FL DSL and getting some buffering and more often then not videos end earlier and I have to reload the page.
Definitely fine most of the time, I am totally experiencing the 'cuts off before the end' also like many others it seems.

EDIT: I see noticeable increases in performance for seeking, it's close to instant playback when seeking through a video. Kudos.

Connection Speed: Comcast (Powerboost so it fluctuates between 10 MBps and 30)
I've had issues where the video will just cut out and go to the "Duder!" screen. I've had issues where in the middle of the video it will essentially "hang" and show the loading text. I've had it constantly stop, play a second, then stop, and play a second. I've also had times where it plays without a hitch.
I'm not sure why you guys made the switch. Is it easier on the servers or something? In any event, it seems that this system is plagued by the same issue that cause so many of us to "preload" our videos: your servers can't seem to spit the data to us as fast as they should.

I get buffering stutters on the second half of videos. Not sure about the next two, but the end of the video cuts off abruptly instead of the fade to black and sometimes the entire video is not played. Unless the videos were cut this way, I got the abrupt ending with The Crystal Bearers quicklook and part way of Dark Void before it ended.
Tried the videos again a few hours later and it seem to have stabilized. I still get the occasional stutter but nothing detrimental.

Occassional hiccups where a video will stop before the end or where the feed will cut out.
Also, in Firefox 3.5.7 (Windows 7) there is no indicator of precaching in the duration bar; i.e., it just shows solid white, with no grey discolouration.

Cable 6-8mbit
Stutters a little at the beginning, and cuts off sometimes near the end but can easily be restarted at an earlier or later point to continue. Keep at it - it's rough but I see the potential of being able to start anywhere in the video.
Here's hoping it works out!
SW of Houston Texas
800kbs-1.4mb
Works well with few buffering
I'm surprised so many of you have such great connections. I live in a small town SW of Houston and can only get 1.4mb tops.
I love the ability to skip forward in videos. I can now stop and watch the rest later but for people without a fast connection or is sharing a connection this could spell the end for them watching giantbomb videos. Youtube does it great, where people with slow connections can leave it to buffer but you can skip ahead. Best of both worlds!

Default quality (medium I guess?) videos
Never had a problem. Starts instantly, no hickups.
Let it be said that I think the video quality is ass. Yes, I've seen the high setting. No, I don't see much of a difference. Also, how about getting some more options for the player? I wish it had auto-play and remembered my volume.

Usually works at 100% for me with hiccups every once in a while. Sometimes, no video until I come back later. Very little buffering problems, though it has been a bit slow a few times.
From my end, you don't need to change a thing.
Seems to be fine, only when I try to skip ahead will I get slight artifacts (slight hiccup).
It seems like every quick look (so far) has cut off before the end though? Is it a problem with those particular quick looks or the streaming I wonder.
Location is Eindhoven, Netherlands. Cable, 20mb or more (depending on the slack of my provider).

Cable Modem
Previously I would ever once and a while get a video that would play for a say 3 minutes and then stop randomly. That was few and far between though. Always loaded in 1-3 seconds and I was watching. Right now if i try it, it just sits there flashing "loading" but never actually loads. I have tried several videos and nothing.
