Subscriber - Downloading Videos - Best Practice?

#1 Posted by JRock3x8 (172 posts) - 4 months, 11 days ago

I'm just going to apologize for posting this - I am sure this has been posted 300 times but I just can't find the thread that answers my specific question, so I'm Sorry.

Ok, moving on! I recently became a subscriber and I love to watch the guys do dumb stuff on my excessively long train ride to and from work but I can't seem to find the easiest way to download videos. iTunes only pulls back like the last 10 videos - I'm looking for the full list. Navigating through the site and picking videos to watch is less than ideal.

Does anyone have a Windows app that they use to download GB videos? I'm a bit of a unique case because I want to go back to the beginning and not just keep up with current stuff.

Thanks in advance and sorry (again) for posting this thread.

@Baillie: You can always delete your own posts, as long as they aren't the first one in a topic.

@Baillie: Wow, that's an insane spreadsheet.

@JRock3x8: JDownloader is a must have if you're going to do bulk downloads.

@MB: Oh wait, I knew that, I think I managed to forget by frequenting other forums though, thanks for the heads up.

spreadsheets are sort of what I do for a living (Finance) so this is like literally made just for me.

Just out of curiosity, what is the total size of all the GB videos posted so far? Anyone got that info? I've been considering downloading all HD videos into a HDD for preservation purposes, but I don't think a 2TB drive will be enough...

@JoeyRavn: With a small amount of math, I figured the size of all the Quick Looks is around 850-950GB. I'd verge more on 880 - 920 GB, but I obviously can't be too accurate. I will do a bit more later, but I'm literally just about to leave. Ponder on this!

@JoeyRavn: I don't know, but I've been trying to find a way to add that info to the spreadsheet. Guess I might have to download every single video to do that though.

I wish there was a download all for endurance runs

you can use the spreadsheet for that. Use a download manager and copy the download links from the Endurance Run tab.

@Baillie: @Shimakaze: Thanks, guys. I have a 100Mbps cable connection and no download limit per month. Now I really feel like doing this, as crazy as it sounds.

You wouldn't have to actually download them all, entirely. I just started downloading then cancelled a bunch of videos to get the size of the file shown to me. I then averaged out the file size with the length of each video and worked out a kb to second ratio and then applied that to all the quick looks. Not hugely accurate, considering that there is some quality changes over the years.

@Baillie: Yea I don't think that's accurate enough. If I'm gonna add any info to the spreadsheet I want it to be certain it's correct. Too many variables with different bitrates for video and sound, some in HD and some not... I'll find some way though.
