Supporting the websites. Oh and also...

@MysteriousBob: Wearing a t-shirt from a website is lame? What the hell is wrong with you? Supporting something you care about is lame? It's no different than wearing a sports teams jersey or your favorite bands shirt (which is probably metallica or some shit.)
And there are ads. There was a scion ad this entire week.
I wish accounts could be deleted for repeat ignorant posting. Can that be done? Anyone?
#53 Posted by Teoball (640 posts) -

I had no idea what I would get for subscribing. I just saw a way to give them something for all the fun I've had so far.

#54 Posted by iMike76 (3 posts) -

It was either this or Red Lobster.  My little seafood friends have escaped my wrath for a little while longer.

#55 Posted by xombi242 (191 posts) -

I threw away 10 bucks on points for my dsi XL so I can play some meh games that really weren't that good...
I think I can afford another 5 bucks.

#56 Posted by mpgeist (643 posts) -

I wanted to support the sites because frankly I don't even have cable tv and Whiskey serves my watching entertainment needs.  I don't really have a good feeling about all of it, but for now I feel they deserve the benefit of doubt.

#57 Posted by SSully (4325 posts) -

Mainly because Giant bomb, tested, and screened are 3 of my favorite sites on the web, i want to support them all and hopefully they will pump out another great site. Also HD video and a tshirt are nice perks :)

#58 Posted by cinemandrew (710 posts) -

They've already provided so much entertainment for me (for free) that it just seemed like a no-brainer. All the added features are just an awesome bonus.

#59 Posted by AltDimension (257 posts) -

I've no idea why I signed up.

#60 Posted by BrowncoatGrimm (90 posts) -

I love Giant Bomb, Comic Vine, Tested and Screened and it seemed a good way to support them. I didn't even bother doing the conversion in to pounds as I didn't care, the number of hours of entertainment they've given me? Well worth it.

#61 Posted by IrishCoffee (110 posts) -

What Whiskey Media does for me on almost an HOURLY bases justifies the $50 100x over. I love their product and wish I could do more for them. The yearly subscription will just have to do...for now.
Plus that T-Shirt is SICK!

#62 Posted by Deathpooky (1443 posts) -

They provide 5+ hours of great content a week and I'd rather not GB have to sell their souls or destroy their site to keep going.  Like was already said, I've paid more for far far less.  One glance at my video game library will tell you that.
I also like the t-shirt.

#63 Posted by mlipkin (41 posts) -

Downloadable videos, T-Shirt, full bombcast, and generally to show my appreciation for this kick-ass site. I don't care too much about HD, and given my schedule will probably never be able to see whatever Friday show they have planned, and I don't go to the other Whiskey sites very often.

#64 Posted by CastroCasper (1306 posts) -

Because they deserve it.

#65 Posted by soupbones (292 posts) -

Mainly to support Giant Bomb - the membership extras didn't sell me at all.
And if they stop the Game Room reviews, I'm going to punch my membership square in the face.

#66 Posted by Robitt (351 posts) -

Show my support.

#67 Edited by Overwatch (271 posts) -

Those bonuses are quite nice, but I didn't singed up for them. I signed up because I respect Jeff and his team. They are doing extraordinary job and I want to support them as much as I can. So not for bonuses, but for the support. I would pay the monthly fee even if there were no bonuses like HD videos and such.

#68 Edited by Branthog (5597 posts) -

The subscriber benefits don't justify $50/yr, so that isn't why I subscribed.  (I think they should sell the shirts separately to those who want them and charge $25/yr for a subscription to generate a larger percentage of user-base buy-in. And maybe not continue with the idea to split the podcast.)
I subscribed, because I believe in value for value. I believe that the best way to ensure continued quality tomorrow is to reward quality, today.  The same reason I expect to be compensated for work I do in my career. Also, because I have been blocking ads for over a decade and said since Giant Bomb's beginning that I would not make exceptions for their ads, but would support with cash the moment they offered a method.
I subscribed, because I know that some people enjoy the site, but can't or won't subscribe. While it may not always be the case, I'm fortunate enough to be able to easily afford it. I know that my subscription helps ensure continued awesomeness at Giant Bomb for everyone. Others who subscribe. Those who want to, but can't. Even those who enjoy the site, but are angry over entirely voluntary subscriptions.

Most importantly, I subscribed because I would pay a prostitute on the street for services she rendered, so why shouldn't I pay those whores at Giant Bomb?

#69 Posted by YoungFrey (1321 posts) -
It was to give the site some money.  The show and T-Shirt aren't nothing.   But it's probably 80/20 donation/extras.  I know I'm in the minority, but I couldn't care less about HD video, I would even like a lower fidelity option to avoid bandwidth problems.
What T-Shirt will I be getting next year?
#70 Posted by Kung_Fu_Viking (717 posts) -

Because these Whiskey sites must be where I spend 80% of my time on the internets and they have provided so much content for me that I want to support them so they continue to do so. Plus T-Shirt, medal and all the other nice bonuses!

Not to mention the $180 on the DSi.  Mine knows its days are numbered when the 3DS comes out.
#72 Posted by blacklab (1597 posts) -

If you use the site on a regular basis, there's no reason not to. It will keep the site content heavy and ad light.

#73 Posted by twhalen (126 posts) -

To support the Whiskey Media crew and finally pay a little something for all of the great entertainment Giant Bomb has given me these last couple years..

#74 Posted by RioStarwind (578 posts) -

I do it for the site! Continue to make great videos each week Giant bomb!

Wait what?! They're introducing adverts? Thats bullshit, if people want to pay fine. But don't suddenly punish those who don't! "
No, they're not introducing advertisements. They're continuing advertisements. They're just not serving the advertisements to subscribers. This is a common practice at any site that offers a few bonuses to contributors.
If, however, monthly subscribers do still have to see ads, I don't think that's fair. Especially since monthly subscribers pay more per year than anyone else (of course, annual subscribers also cause less transaction fees for Giant Bomb since they only have one transaction instead of a dozen). They need to strive for simplicity in this whole project. Everyone gets A, B, and C. Subscribers (of any time) should get A, B, C, and D. Period. Don't make it baffling, guys.
#76 Posted by sixdemonbag (77 posts) -
Yeah, I didn't say that.
#77 Posted by wefwefasdf (6729 posts) -

The HD videos!

#78 Posted by Rhombus_Of_Terror (2165 posts) -

I subscribed because I have known the Giantbomb crew's antics over the last decade and considering the stuff that they have done in that I haven't gone anywhere else for my gaming know-how. I have faith that they will do the best and have provided so much, and considering the stuff they can come up with now that a lot of people are subscribing is going to be awesome. This also goes out to Screened and Tested. Also, T-SHIRT.

#79 Posted by wafflestomp (252 posts) -

I subscribed because I love what Whiskey Media does.

#80 Posted by Tebbit (4485 posts) -

I subscribed with the sole purpose of making the Bombcast available to everyone.
Well, not really, but It's a nice offshoot
Mainly because they've earned my $ by providing countless hours of entertainment over countless hours of time I should have spent studying.
But now I feel like a lackey...

#81 Posted by Zanthox (239 posts) -

To tell GB that I love them. And get a shirt. And no ads. Mostly love, though.

#82 Posted by Shasam (468 posts) -

I think a lot of people take for granted the awesome content, and the amount of it, that we get constantly for zilch. So, I just wanted to help them out. The perks are still perks, but I probably would have still given money if it was just a big fat 'donate' button. But, of course, they wanted to do it right and we get something in return, which is just swell.

#83 Posted by evophisol (86 posts) -

It's probably already been said, but anyway:
Because my heart belongs to Giant Bomb.

#84 Posted by Kohe321 (3533 posts) -

Been using GB since the start, and tested/screened are visited several times daily as well. Has felt weird getting all of this awesome content for free all this time. Why wouldn't I want to support these dudes?

#85 Posted by PlainZombie (17 posts) -

Basically to support these guys. The extra things help a bit too (Mobile site, downloadable videos to watch later, t-shirt, etc) but really these guys have been doing great things and I want to support them.

#86 Posted by dogbox (464 posts) -

I really subscribed for just about every feature they`re offering. I`m not a huge poster, but I`m on Giant Bomb for at least an hour a day, usually more. And, like many have said, I just wanted to support Whiskey for all the great work they`ve done these past few years. And the multi-pass is making me more interested in being more active on other Whiskey sites as well.

#87 Posted by Barrock (3553 posts) -

Primarily because I want to support the website. The features/t-shirt are just a nifty little bonus.

#88 Posted by Ethereal (103 posts) -

Giant Bomb has been my go to site for video game news basically since it launched.  I like what these guys are doing and I wanna support them.  HD video is nice and once I get a spiffy new HTML5 capable phone, having the redesigned mobile site will be really awesome.  Also I feel that while Whiskey is obviously a business that is looking to make money, that they still have always had the best interest of their user base at heart.
#89 Posted by trevorbonnell@hotmail.com (1 posts) -

I been following these guys since before GB was made. I followed Jeff after he was fired from gamespot and subscribed to Arrow Pointing Down podcast (the pre-bombcast bombcast) and I jumped at the opportunity to support them. I'm not broke yo.
Also, T-shirt.

#90 Posted by shadowwolf9 (162 posts) -

I mostly want to show support to guys that entertain me on a daily basis. Still, I'm excited about the HD videos, t-shirt, and the mysterious Friday show.

#91 Posted by StupidGamer (155 posts) -

Because I'm terrified that Vinny might be connected to the mafia and he wouldn't like me trying to get something for nothing, you know?
Actually it's just to support the site. It's been a good source of information, entertainment, and general tomfoolery. You can't put a price tag on that. Oh wait, they just did...and I paid it.

#92 Posted by sociald1077 (263 posts) -

I have been supporting Giant Bomb since it was the Arrow Pointing Down podcast and Jeff doing Points! from his bedroom. Then I found out about Comicvine and Whiskey Media through Giant Bomb and love them.
Plus, I have spent more on porn in a year than $50, so I figured this was a better place for that money.
Oh, and the T-shirt!

#93 Posted by Rafaelfc (1458 posts) -

people who think the 5k subscribers thing will actually happen are funny.

#94 Edited by omghisam (308 posts) -

Giant Bomb has been a wonderful constant in my life. I would hate for it to go away. Duders, you have my sword!

#95 Posted by Zecks23 (157 posts) -

The HD Videos and I wanted to support all the great people working at Whiskey! I've had so much enjoyment from the websites over the last couple years giving back is the least I could do. The medal is an added bonus as well =)

#96 Posted by arab_prince (2053 posts) -

I wasn't planning on it today. But after I said free account it said "last chance to get premiuim" and i was like aww fuck it. You guys are too great to not support.
This is the first site I've ever paid for, btw.

#97 Posted by MikkaQ (10344 posts) -

The video promised me love and acceptance?

#98 Posted by ToxicFruit (1719 posts) -

support the people who have given me hours of entertainment

#99 Posted by piderman (204 posts) -

I used to be a paying member of Gamespot and this is a logical continuation. It surprises me it took them this long to set it up :)

#100 Edited by bibamatt (1090 posts) -

It was pretty easy to justify paying for this.  Access to the mobile site is huge, premium podcast access and, most importantly, I use Giant Bomb, Tested and Comicvine every single day and think it's worth £3.20 a month to support great content.
