Hey there forumners! I'm bored out of my chair, and thinking about playing some games. I'm in a turn based strategy mode. Can you suggest some games? I'm a huge fan of the HoMM series (played em all), and I've got, but never really gotten into Divinity 2. Any other suggestions?
Suggest a game to me! Turn Based-Strategy Edition
Age of Wonders 2 or Disciples 2. Never played the other games in their respective series, but those two games took up a lot of time when I was in high school.
EDIT: Also, Galactic Civilizations 2. That game took up a lot of my time during college. This will give you a pretty good idea of what it's about: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/161570/blog/galciv-2-war-report-final-entry/?site=pcg, if you don't already.
@Gladiator_Games: No idea what platforms you have access to, so I will just list off a bunch that I know you can find rather easily:
- Disgaea: Hour of Darkness PS2
- Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories PS2
- Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice PS3
- Disgaea 4: A promise Unforgotten PS3
- Final Fantasy Tactics PS3
- Front Mission 3 PS3
- Greed Corp PC
- Shiren the Wanderer Wii
- Spectral Force 3 360
- Eternal Poison PS2
- Valkyria Chronicles PS3
- Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes PC
- Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons and Donuts PC
- Jagged Alliance: Back in Action PC
- Hearts of Iron series
While they won't help you now because they are not out yet, some future games to keep an eye on are:
- Fray PC
- Xenonauts PC
- Team Assault: Baptism of Fire PC
- XCOM: Enemy Unknown PC
- FTL - Faster Than Light PC
- MechWarrior Tactics PC
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

@Gargantuan: Eehh.. Civ V didn't do it for me.. the fact its STILL buggy, missing multiplayer features, no espionage, diplomacy is like dealing with a bunch of ADHD kids (I love you! now Im denouncing you!). Any other suggestions?
Civ IV :3
Or better yet, Alpha Centauri! It's a Civ game in space, literally.
I was going to recommend all the Heroes of Might and Magic games... but you say you have those covered. Thus, if you want stuff that is kind of like that, may I recommend the Age of Wonders series and Master of Magic? They're a bit more Civ-inspired than HoMM, but still retain the tactical combat elements. The only caveat is that you probably don't need to play Age of Wonders 2, since Shadow Magic is basically a standalone expansion that makes it redundant.
Hmmm, what else? As people have mentioned, Alpha Centauri is basically Civ in space, Civ IV Colonization is a fun diversion if somewhat limited in the number of viable strategies. Master of Orion 2 is kind of awesome. If you want something more tactical, there's always stuff like Fire Emblem (though, at this point I would imagine that most of the games aren't especially cheap anymore) and X-COM. Basically, I could go on forever. Turn Based Strategy is one of my favorite genres.
Some great popular games listed here. For some less popular I would say look at the Paradox Grand Strategy Games. Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis III, Victoria II and Hearts of Iron 3 series are amazingly complex titles. They cover 1066 to 1948 and while there are gameplay systems common to all, they each focus on a specific area. CK2 focuses on diplomacy, EU3 on exploration and colonization, Vic2 on industry and commerce, and HoI3 on warfare. Eu3 is probably the most accessible of them, though "accessible" here has a different meaning them most games.
If you have an iOS device make sure you get Hero Academy, its free and if you want some additional teams (although the default team is still my personal favourite) they are only $1.99. Great if you are playing with friends with all that asynchronous turn stuff.
oh and Civ V
X-Com, Final Fantasy Tactics, King's Bounty (very similar to the HoMM series), Advance Wars, Frozen Synapse
Wait for it...
If you like HoMM - You'll love this.. Great gameplay and awesome artwork
The King's Bounty and Heroes of Might and Magic series are some of my favorites. I would also recommend the Paradox strategy games.
I'm not sure if it counts, but Avadon is an old-school RPG with turn-based combat that I'm also enjoying at the moment.
