Hey duders, wanted to see if there were any good recommendations on a video card. I see a lot that look like they are candidates, but I want to stay under $150-200. My goal is to have something that would be good for Elite Dangerous at maybe high settings, no problem...I also would like to get a Saitek x-52 (that would be a separate cost, not in the $150-200). Here is my current setup:

- Radeon 6770 1GB graphics card

- 12 GB DDR3 RAM

- i7-2600 3.4 GHz processor

I guess what I was looking for was recommendations from people who have actually been able to use some of the hardware opposed to just recommending specs. Any help is appreciated!

970, 960 or stick with what you have.

@sammo21: For $200 you could pick up a GTX 960, which would be pretty decent upgrade over the 6770.

I use a 7870, which runs pretty much anything I throw at it. Because it's discontinued, it may creep up over $200, but that's what I spent on it new. The equivalent card would by the R9 270X, which you can get for $200. I won't suggest anything else, as I haven't personally used anything else recently.

AMD has been pricing their cards really aggressively recently, so in that price range they'll probably offer the best value.

The R9 280 is a pretty powerful card, and it goes for $200 on Newegg (less with mail-in rebate).

EDIT: It looks like the 280 is available for $160 after mail-in rebate at Newegg, which is an insane price for that card. It's competitive with the GTX 960, which is $20-30 more expensive, plus it has 3 GB of memory compared to the 960's 2 GB, which might make it more future-proof.

There are advantages to NVidia's card - mainly power consumption. If that's very important to you, then look at the 960. Some people also prefer NVidia's drivers, but since you've been using an AMD card and are familiar with AMD's software, I think the R9 280 is probably your best bet.

I'd go for the 970 over the 960, it's quite the difference apparently. It's what I'm looking to buy after recommendations from friends who are really into this stuff.
