Anyways, Jet Brody definitely takes the cake. His name was so bad that it was almost made me NOT want to play Fracture. Then I played Fracture and realized that the GAME made me not want to play Fracture.

Solid Snake is one of the most badass names ever, so that's completely wrong.
I was just talking about Streets of Rage in another thread, and Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, Max Thunder, and Mr. X are all pretty corny names. The name that should be a name to a character in a beat em' up but isnt: Mason Storm, from that terrible but awesome Steven Segal movie Hard to Kill.
Travis Touchdown is suppose to be a goofy ass name, so it can't really be put in the same category as Edge Maverick. Or any of those other names that try to make the character sound badass but end up coming off as retarded. Also, Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Big Boss are all awesome names. Only dumb names I can think of from MGS would be Fatman and Big Mama. I just can't take a character seriously when they share a name with the title character of a Martin Lawrence flick.
Butz (*aka* Bartz) is also pretty bad. More recently, Jet Brody has taken the gold for best generic army FPS character ever. Only thing missing with that character is him chugging a mountain dew every time he gets a headshot.
My #1 favorite worst name though comes from Zone of The Enders: The Fist of Mars on GBA. It litteraly is an embodiement of Japan trying to do a western name and failing....epically...

It's hardly 'completely wrong' you're allowed an opinion but there is no factual answer in this debate. If I want to think that Solid Snake sounds a bit like a euphemism for an erect penis, then that's what i'll think.
Master Chief is a bullshit name, I don't care if it's a rank in 'the military' (it's actually the US Navy)
I'm not going to comment on Japanese names being/not being stupid because that's the same as taking something out of context, they have a completely different culture to us and the way names work over there is very different.
A lot of the names get changed. They're usually pretty similar. I'm not sure if Cao Pi is accurate though.

Frog from Chrono Trigger....I don't see why he didn't just keep the name Glenn...why would you go.."Oh shit I got turned into a frog, now my names gotta be frog! Thats the only logical thing too do!"
