Thanks videogame industry for spoiling the fallout 4 setting

Not only does the anticipation for this game now starts earlier than it should. Meaning we now know it's coming and will have to wait even longer than if got the news from a proper annoucement trailer a few months from now. But now the suprise for their trailer is ruined.

Man, some of guys are way more pissed at me than I'm pissed at that setting ''reveal''. Maybe putting the word spoiling in the thread title wasn't the smartest move with the general level of snark and knee jerk reactions on the internet.

To clarify my position I would say I'm more disappointed than angry. Because if Bethesda sticks with their MO on trailer releases and hype building for fallout 4 the actual announcement for the game will be as exiting as a wet paper bag. So we'll get a trailer that's all moody. It will make a big deal out of ''OH SHIT IT'S IN BOSTON!!!'' and we'll all go ''meh''. We shouldn't go ''meh'' at the annoucement of Fallout 4, it's fucking Fallout 4!

I'm just saying we traded in what could have been a cool surprise for some crappy headlines. I salute Giantbomb for not putting that on their front page.

dude, i knew it would be set in boston when i was playing FO3. There's literally dozens of references in FO3 to the area around boston. There was an entire detailed long quest line about a robot android dude from boston. I mean where else would you set it? Has to be in america for fallout or all the themes are fucked. West coast would anger the old school fans too much. Boston is perfect and already referenced, they had it planned already.

I mean bethesda already stated they decided on doing the east coast for their fallout games to minimize the damage done to the original games canon. (phrased differently obviously).

Also did anyone really think FO4 WASN'T going to happen? I mean sure i expected a super vague announcement trailer at the VGX like most other people, but when that thing turned out to be a hoax i wasn't fooled into thinking FO4 wasn't happening. That'd be crazy.

And the location is not a god damn spoiler. WTF. I mean im pretty damn sensitive when it comes to spoilers and saying a game takes place in ______ is not a spoiler unless its a crazy twist at the end. Thats as stupid as complaining someone told you Bioshock Infinite takes place in a floating skycity. CUS NO SHIT.

Who gives a fuck? It's not like someone posted in-depth story information or anything. We've all known that a Fallout 4 is coming, this doesn't change that. And did anyone honestly not think that Boston was the setting? Am I the only one who thought that was super damn obvious?

I get that some people try to avoid any and all spoiler type stuff, but I think this is as much of a spoiler as the fact that Mass Effect 4 will be space.

We haven't played the game or even seen it yet. Just knowing it exists doesnt affect anything.

We knew the setting to New Vegas (it's in the title) and Fallout 3 long before they were released, as well. Also, the news is still speculation, although speculation backed with mounting evidence. I guess that's all I have to say, since I'm not sure where there's room for anger.

Did this really need to be a thread? There is literally 0 discussion value here. I think you're being silly for thinking the location of the game is a spoiler. Oh no, something you'll know more than a year before you even put the disc in was revealed to you a couple months early, all enjoyment of the game is OVER.

They telegraphed the setting with a character in Fallout 3.

While I do think it would have pretty cool to find this out in a trailer, It's really not a big deal.

As @clonedzero said, all throughout Fallout 3 it is heavily implied that Boston will be a future setting. Even if it wasn't implied so heavily it would still be a very logical assumption to make as it is a important place in the lore. Besides it's not like impacts the experience of searching through the post apocalyptic ruins at all.

Also I don't think it would be a spoiler even by definition as the setting of the game is something that once the game is announced will be open to everyone. It's not like it is being hidden, the game just hasn't been announced yet.

I thought for sure Fallout 4 would finally be set in Feudal Japan where you play as a ninja.

Like where else would it have been set? How many interesting major cities are there in America? The only other big contender in my mind was NYC, but I can't see that happening for some reason.

EDIT: As a side note, since New Vegas had a few Persona voice actors in it, what are the odds they get Labrys' voice actress in this on account of her Boston accent?

I second this. I don't see why this is such a big issue. We all expected Massachusetts, and really no information has been given except what we already know about the universe itself. Most of what we could suspect was put into view on thesurvivor2299.com. It might have been a hoax but it just centralized all of the information available about MA.

It's really not though. Hell, San Fransisco (which was in Fallout 2 I think?) only has 500k people (technically, though the bay area far outstrips the LV metro area), but it has history. Las Vegas's claim to fame is a bunch of casinos and it's in the desert. In the context of Fallout it absolutely made sense that LV was as big as it was but in real life? nah.

I mean, I loved New Vegas and all but Las Vegas was definitely the lesser of the main cities (LA, SF, Washington D.C. and now apparently boston).

Did you guys know Samurai Gunn came out today??? I would have discovered this on my own in my private time were it not for those pesky journalists putting that massive spoiler right in the headline on the front page! JEEZ!!! Let me sign in to Steam one day and, having a vague recollection of this game, struggle with remembering its name (Search: Samurai...something. Samurai Kill? No...Samurai, uh...Samurai Gun? OH Samurai GUNN!) discover that it, in fact, came out on this day, which, knowing me, will have been two weeks ago by the time I pursue it. What a great twist that would have been! But it's been utterly SPOILED by Giant Bomb and Co. who just can't WAIT to blab about it to everyone they see!! THANKS A LOT!!!!
