Pokemon Blue or Red - 1000+ hours on that sucker.  It was then followed by every Pokemon game in the series  :-)

Thats pretty much mine word for word.
#4 Posted by m_rum (128 posts) -

I've finished Metal Gear Solid over 30 times at least since it's release. If that counts.

#5 Posted by Absurd (2934 posts) -

Runescape when I was 10 :) I probably sank over 2000 hours in that game. I played it consistently for 3 years, except maybe for 3-4 bigger breaks.

Then a good time was had by us both  :-)

If I had to go right back, I might have to say Pong on my first Hanimex home console (the very first home console) or a little later, at the arcade - Asteroids, man I loved that sucker.

Tony Hawk back then.
Rock Band 2 now.

#8 Posted by FlamingHobo (4482 posts) -

I'd say either Baldur's Gate, World of Warcraft or BioShock.
Not sure if I qualified under "addicted" in any of those but whatevs.

The first game I was ever addicted to would have to be Contra on the NES...I put so many hours into that game and always had a blast. Tis be the original king of co-op!

This, minus the INSANE number of hours. I played it a tonne, completed it 3 times, but 1000 hours is waaaaaaay too much.

Quake 3 Arena. Years. Many many years of every minute of spare time almost.

#13 Posted by minotaka (320 posts) -

OOOoooo... good topic.  Id say  not "addicted"  (then again everyone with addictions dont admit they have an addiction... its a nasty cycle XD  )   ...anyway... would prob be metal gear solid when i was about 10/11. I was just blown away by how much narative was in a game and the stealth gameplay was insane for its time. I remember just completing it over and over and over to just dick about with the extra goodies. Im kinda ashamed i did the same thing with mgs2....  stupid raiden wigs... what a waste of my time!!!!

Oh don't forget that little unknown game "World of Warcraft" i think its called? something like that i forget.

Earthbound.

I'm still hopelessly addicted to that damn game.

Diablo 2. Don't know how many hours but it was definetly a lot

#20 Posted by ArchScabby (5809 posts) -

Starcraft, or Counter-strike (xbox version)  both when I was a wee lad.

nightstalker on the intellevision... i miss that game

#22 Posted by NoDeath (798 posts) -

Counter Stike: Source. 600-700 hours of my life over about 2 years was mercilessly drained by that game. More recently would be TF2, dumped about 500 hours into that in the first 6 months. Valve must have some way of delivering narcotics directly through the internet

pokeman blue. i remember it was my first video game, my aunt bought me that and a gameboy (cause you kinda need that) to shut me up on the plane we were going on. i played it the whole ride and practically didnt stop for 3 years. i was 5 or 6 at the time.

#24 Posted by Dovey (161 posts) -

Sonic 2 on the genesis.  It was the first console game I played.

#25 Posted by wipu (48 posts) -

My first game addiction has to be Super Mario Bros 3 although I didn't have my own Nes back then in mid 90s. I spend lots and lots of hours at my cousins' house playing that one game.
Later after getting my own pc rig, my addictions were Duke Nukem 3D and a bit after Fallout 2 (which is still my favorite game of all time).

#26 Posted by lemon360 (1102 posts) -

i guess the first game is tetris

#27 Edited by Lazyaza (2176 posts) -

Crash Team Racing on ps1, unlocked every character, track and got every single gold medal and platinum relic on everything.
Come to think of it I haven't played a single racing game I was as addicted to as that since.

#28 Posted by Thayne (7 posts) -

Counterstrike 1.6 and Pokemon Red
Longest addicted game is that darn Heroin of a game WoW

Thats proabably the worst I got addicted. That and Resident Evil 4. The first time I got addicted to a game was River Raid, its the first game I have memories of playing and I played it a lot.

The first game that I recall that I just could not pull away from was Final Fantasy (1).  As an adult the first was Fallout.

Activision's 1982 "Space Invaders" inspired MegaMania for the 2600.  It was also the first game (and one of the few) that I was any good at.  I could "zone" in that game and hit that sweet spot where the game just can't get any harder then just coast for long lengths of time.

When it first came out in the arcade, i was well and truly hooked!
Then, later, it came out on the SNES, and that was a Hallelujah moment...

Yeppes, you gassed it, Street Fighter II.

#36 Posted by Azteck (7449 posts) -

I honestly don't remember any more, too many games to be addicted to.

Pokemon I guess

That's why the question is 'The First...'
Come on, dude!
The first game you played a lot, that should not be too hard to recall...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past

I purposefully prolonged my play time by avoiding temples and exclusively exploring simply because I didn't want it to end. Took me a little over a year to beat and loved every second of it. I still remember my shock and excitement after finding the invisibility cloak. It didn't help that right after beating it I found out that Occarina of Time was coming out for the N64 so my addiction for the game simply bled over into that, causing me to have beaten it at least 20 times.

Worms 2

This was just the perfect combination of the right friends and the right moment. Sitting around the computer screen and taking turns at each other was full of suspense and excitement. We'd have a perfectly fine Xbox with Halo in the drive but if someone booted up Worms 2 on that computer we were on it.

I'm being perfectly honest, I don't remember the first game I got really into was.

Mind you, I don't remember a lot of things. My memory is totally busted.

Okay, i believe you.
But that 'memory loss' might have a cause.
Take care, my friend...

Probably Pokemon Red. Because of it I was surgically attached to my gameboy until Tekken 3 came out a few years later.

#45 Posted by Mandaray (159 posts) -

Definitely Baldur's Gate. I played that game so many times I was worried the CDs would break.

#46 Posted by AhmadMetallic (18955 posts) -

Doom / Doom 2 when i was like 10 .. used to play it ALL day and then have nightmares at night starring this asshole :

oh and i spent tens of hours on GTA 2 when i first got it. same with GTA Vice City..

We all fell inlove with this one!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past... although the most addictive games is MGS3: Snake Eater =|

#48 Posted by Guerrilla_Mason (479 posts) -

Played tons of games prior, but my first addiction was Sonic 2. Took me forever to beat it the first time when I was around 11 or so, but I got it so down I could do 'speed runs.' Probably put hundreds of hours into that game.

#49 Posted by skrutop (3615 posts) -

It wasn't the first game, but the worst for me was Morrowind.  I'd find every excuse to cut out of work to play that game.  Then, while at work, I was reading up on it to discover things I had missed.  Man, that was BAD.

#50 Posted by TheGremp (2064 posts) -

Quake 2.  Played it on LAN with my brother and dad all the time when I was around 5.  This grew to a Quake 3 Arena addiction, and now Quake Live.
