I buy Dynasty Warriors games every once in a while, if you can find me another hack n slash game that's as easy to pick up as DW that I could play with my little nephew with splitscreen coop, with characters that he's more familiar with than those asian historical figures that's been in so many games and animes and legends, and for some reason play better than DW while having a lot of depth and he could easily get over the learning curve, I'd be happy to buy them. Why do people buy Dante's inferno when it plays like God of war but with lower production values, I don't know, maybe because they like that formula? And it plays well? or are we just bashing a game because they offer no innovation?
The first DW games with coop on the PS2 got 78% on metacritics, which means that particular formula works fine even for 'professional journalists' that're usually supposed to be harsh with game designs, each new game is particular the same with little tweaks and improvement, and hence the bashing from reviewers, but not every 15 year olds had played every DW games that ever came out for the past 10 years, they know little to nothing about how the game is the 'same', like sports franchises, they know there're improvements and they'll just buy the newest one, it's not like with each DW game the sales sky rocket and multiply each game, there are just simply no other games and choices out there for the new 15 year olds to buy. (i'm just making up the age demographics to make this easier.)
As far as I know, strikeforce also play a bit different than previous DW games, with air dashing and whatnot, and boss designs are a bit different and there are a bunch of crap you can do like gathering materials and crafting weapons/switching weapons from what I can tell from the demo. There're also 4 players coop. I don't know, sounds pretty fun to me if you have a portable and you need something to play with a couple of friends.
