Nick wins because Ben didn't pick Monkey Island! That game totally is more capsule worthy than Space Invaders because 10 years or a hundred years from now, there will be a few more dozen updated Space Invader games like there are on XBLA, but what sort of updating did the Monkey Island games get? Voice acting and graphics, not game play. It's totally something tomorrow's youth will be able to enjoy as is, as opposed to Space Invaders which requires new and edgy approaches just to get people to look at it again. Hands down a much, much more worthwhile game to put in the capsule and people will be less likely to just glance over it and say, "Oh, pft, I've totally played this newer version of this exact same game. Don't waste my time, capsule!."

Ben makes me laugh every time, he gets my vote.

Also, Space Invaders is one of the forefathers of all videogames, so it must be remembered forever.

It'd be pretty hard to fit an arcade cabinet in a time capsule. Unless the capsule's the size of a whole room, like the Crypt of Civilization in Oglethorpe University. The things I learn from watching QI, my goodness.
 
I kind of think this should have its own menu item on the site. Fear Gauntlet too. It's not like the site's been inundated with new features of late.

I'd still pick Space Invaders, but Nick had the more interesting argument. Ben's was way more entertaining, though.

Also, watching these videos convinced me to try Cow Clicker and Passage. I wish someone has a full list of the game cards online by now, and not even just so I can make my own deck! I really would like to play any of the games I haven't played that are on the list.

EDIT: Is it looking at all like it'll be possible for us plebs to get our own decks?

I wanted to go with Katamari but I didn't really dig Nick's argument that much.

Ben is right, Space Invaders will help the people of 3011 fend of the inevitable invasion, so it is our duty to include that game as a teaching tool to our descendants.

Nick wins this one.  Ben's argument seemed kind of weak.  Space Invaders might be the right game between those two, but Nick's argument felt far more compelling.  At the same time though, I sort of wonder - would Space Invaders really need to be put into a time capsule?  Being such a classic it kind of is easy to find all over the place right now to the point where I'm sure if someone really wanted to play the game, even in a thousand years, I could totally see it being available.  At the least it would probably make it into any discussion talking about the history of video games.  Katamari, on the other hand, might be something that's relatively forgotten about in a thousand years, unless it was put into a capsule or saved in some manner for those of later generations to get their hands on it.  
 
Course, Ben also lost points with me when he eliminated the social interaction question immediately while holding WoW in his hand.  That probably would have been an automatic win in the debate; but he seemingly chose not to go with it because he just thinks it's a dumb game.  Oh well.

They both were pretty middling arguments. Nick made the right choice, but didn't explain it well. Ben should have picked Monkey Island and I'm honestly a little shocked if he's a gaming enthusiast and doesn't know what it is.

That was kind of stupid one. Ben went for a jokey arguement - which didn't quite work. This one was completely one sided, in favor of Nick.

Ben won, because SPACE INVADERS. It shall indeed be a big part of the Survival 101-kit when the aliens attack!
