@mcghee: Weird, Timecop totally popped into my head at random an hour ago.

Huh.

Interactive pornography sounds cool to me, man. Maybe the video game industry should stop treating nudity as blasphemy when brutally murdering hundreds of people is seen as totally normal. Keep it away from minors and you're fine.

@zeforgotten: I've played the Alpha and Beta of the new Leisure Suit Larry.

It's nothing like Magna Cum Laude.

It's like a reboot of the original Leisure Larry with tweaks to the dialogue and game play so it's not completely the same game, but it has all the same locations and beats the original game had. It's also written by Al Lowe and Josh Mandel, the original guys, so it's better.

That's my take on that.

When you say "new" do you mean Reloaded? Because I know that's gonna be good but that's not exactly "new".

I want a new one, new locations, new story, new everything! .. and not terrible :P

As I said before they are confirmed to do exactly that. They will do a Larry 2 remake and a Larry 8. Noted the 8? That is because they stopped seeing it as a real larry game after Love for Sail.

I would play it

Exactly dude, this makes it more likely the oculus rift will be a success. Even if you don't care for it, you can't argue that this isn't a good thing for the rift.

I know what you said already, you broken record. I was just clarifying it.
And I noted the 8, but just because someone says "we're gonna make it not terrible" doesn't actually mean that it will happen.
Welcome to video games since, for-fucking-ever :P

Wow so you guys think it is cool that the first advertised game on the occulus rift is probably going to be a porn game? I can't say I am surprised but what does that say about the device and it's chances of getting games that are well.... worth a damn? How about it's chances of not simply being mocked, mudslinged, and laughed out of the room before it has a chance to actually become a decent gaming device?

For those saying it may not even be a porn game let's borrow a quote from the games own website.

"Imagine playing Leisure Suit Larry but instead of watching a screen, you are inside the game.

Imagine the world and its inhabitants look highly realistic.

Imagine walking into a bar in Wicked Paradise, noticing a beautiful lady, talking to her, and seducing her.

Imagine playing your cards right and having passionate wild sex with her."

Yeah, totally just an adventure game with a "mature twist" like Liesure Suit Larry, no way it is just virtual porn game. Can't wait to see the "quality adventure games" the Japanese game devs come up with.

Your comment would be funny and makes sense, except it is stupid and it doesn't. I understand giant bomb is mostly college kids who know basically... nothing, but success is determined in the real world and if you think it will be just Fox News mocking the device if it gets a full porn simulator on day one you are kinda wrong. Secondly the game will either not deliver on what it claims (full on sex simulation) or the government will be all over it like white on rice hailing it as "digital prostitution".

Logan's Run, Timecop, and Minority Report are movies for a reason. The crap you see in them will never be legally allowed in the real world. Not only because it is morally repugnant, but because it can also be used to simulate illegal activities (underage sex), and encourages a unhealthy society trend in general. Just look at all the articles in Japan already about guys who won't date real girls, and they don't even have full on VR yet.

Isn't there some sort of 'Rule 34' for tech? If a piece of technology exists, someone has found a way to use it for sex, or something like that?

#117 Posted by pyromagnestir (4283 posts) -

What are you talking about, man? This just means we're now one step closer to my dream game! Which is a game that is exactly like sex in every way, only I can be good at it because it's a video game.

Okay, let me be honest here, it's exactly like sex in every way, only I can be okay at it because it's a video game. Because, if I'm being honest, I'm not particularly good at games, either.

Oh i never said that it will be awesome. I only said that it will be not an abortion like Magna Cum Laude or the other crap after that. It will be a full fledged Adventure game. Just like the old games.

You can attack me all you want and try to undermine my argument by dismissing it, but really my claim has historical relevance, and yours doesn't.

Remember how GTA:SA got banned because of the prostitutes in it, and the fact you can have "digital sex". Oh, me neither. Yeah, some regulators were appalled, but good for them. In the end, you're trying to use the law to control people's free will to do an action that is otherwise a 'victimless crime'/not violating anyone else's autonomy. Are you trying to tell me the OR won't be successful because of a single VR game making leagues of gamers robowhores? Give me a break.

One of the main reasons that VHS is known for winning over betamax was not just because of the format differences, but was because JVC allowed porn on VHS, and Sony did not. If you tell people they can get pleasure out of a device and they buy it, all you've done is increased your marketshare. How does this translate into a device being a commercial failure?

This. Just because someone doesn't agree with it doesn't mean a game shouldn't be made. Long-tail, niche interest stuff ends up benefiting everybody and broadening the industry. And pornography is hardly niche interest.

POV porn will never be the same, oculus rift available behind the counter at your local XXX store.

Instead of POV it will be 90-degrees FOV.

I think its a very natural progression of any new technology. Every time there is a new technology, people will ask the following questions:

  • Can it be used for war?
  • Can it be used for porn?
