The Tokyo Metropolitan government is moving forward on legislation that sets out to ban provocative "visual depictions" of characters who appear to be 18 years-old and younger. And some of Japan's most famous manga creators are fighting it.
I'm glad that Japan finally took notice of how incredibly creepy some of those over-sexualized anime characters are. Though at the same time, it's sad that they have to introduce such a law in the first place. Curbing artistic freedom is never a good thing (freedom of expression and all) but in this case, I feel it's justified. The "visual depictions" are understood to encompass underage characters in manga, anime, computer games and video games — i.e., virtual characters.
