Top 15 for 00s
Just browsing around, and came across this list (because everybody loves these) of the top 15 games of the past decade. While there are always some glaring omissions, I believe the guy pretty much nailed it. You think of each of these games and the points he brings up are actually quite valid. Gaming as an industry would not be the same without these titles.
Thats what I think at least. Just thought I'd let you all take a gander at it. Every list sparks debate and such on what titles are there/omitted, but just think about the ones that made it there...
I agree with a few of those choices. Surprised that they put GTA: Vice City in there and not GTA III. GTA: Vice City was pretty awesome. Everyone has their own opinion, though. SSX3, Final Fantasy XII, and Ninja Gaiden seem like some strange picks, in my opinion. All three are good games, dunno about Top 15 of the decade.
Don't fully agree with every game on the list, but mostly it's all very close to what I think.

" Bad list. "Surprise surprise :P
" KATAMARI DAMACY FTW!!! Seriously, though, that WAS a good list! "Not really, no. Fallout 3 made the list (not calling it a bad game), as did Final Fantasy XII (I'm calling it a bad game).
It's not what I would have chosen, so I don't think he "nailed it", but what does it matter anyway? We all know we'd all have different lists because there are millions of "best of" lists on this site and sites like this across the internet. But for the sake of argument, this is how I'd see it. I'm sure everyone else's list would be quite different than mine just as mine is very different than the one linked above.
- Diablo II (2000)
- Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (2001)
- Tony Hawk: Pro Skater 3 (2002)
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Raven Shield (2003)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)
- Beyond Good & Evil (2003)
- Burnout 3: Takedown (2004)
- World of Warcraft (2004)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004)
- The Sims 2 (2004)
- Civilization IV (2005)
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006)
- Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (2007)
- Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 (2008)
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
Trying to compress a decade's worth of goodness into 15 spots = flamewar bait.
There's simply no way to please everybody. That said, the list blows.
" Trying to compress a decade's worth of goodness into 15 spots = flamewar bait. There's simply no way to please everybody. That said, the list blows. "Great way to put it.
As for the actual list.. I may agree with a couple on the list but there are some seriously glaring mistakes in the sense of revolutionary games being missed. Oh well though, only 15 to choose is near impossible.
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Half-Life 2
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal
- World of Warcraft
- Ghost Recon
- Assassin's Creed
- Left 4 Dead
- Katamari
- The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
- Gran Turisimo 3 A-Spec
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- Team Fortress 2
- World of Goo
Honestly I thought of this in five minutes I'll put these in better order with links and captions later.
I thought that was a really interesting list. Obviously, we are all gonna have our own lists that are vastly different from this, including myself, but I really like the variety and originality in that list. Reading the popular top three of GTA 3, Halo, and Half Life 2 has already grown tiresome well before this decade began to fade.

Oh well though, only 15 to choose is near impossible. "Yeah, there's already like 15 games from this year alone that'd be worth noting.
Some of the choices are real head scratchers, too. Not to say they aren't all fun games, but with only 15 spots, I think they should've probably put more emphasis on "revolutionary" games like you said. I guess they went with smaller-name titles just to stand out or something, so they wouldn't be like the 50 million other "Top-whatevers" listing Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, etc.
" Trying to compress a decade's worth of goodness into 15 spots = flamewar bait. There's simply no way to please everybody. That said, the list blows. "Exactly. Most 'top' lists are absurd but this really pushes it. Sure, technically "Top Games of All Time" is broader and therefore worse but by narrowing down to recent years makes it seem less opinionated. I mean SSX3? Really? It wasn't even the best in the series.
Just because someone's opinion differs from your own, does not make it wrong.
I thought the inclusion of SSX3 was very interesting...very underrated game in my opinion.
I mean SSX3? Really? It wasn't even the best in the series. "I'd probably say the same for FFXII as well. FFX should've been the pick if they wanted to go with a FInal Fantasy game from the decade. Hell, I may even take FFIX over 12, but whatever. A ton of people dug the game, so I can't really hold it against them for adding it to the list.
