Always curious what other gamers think are the very best games of the decade?, as since it's always so subjective, it's interesting to trade this info. It came up in my mind today after reading Paste Magazine and seeing they thought "Portal" was the very best. What are your top picks?
Here is my current list (which could change tomorrow) Funny they are all recent titles:
5. Fallout 3
4. Uncharted 2
3. Forza Motorsport 3
2. Mass Effect 2
1. Red Dead Redemption
Top 5 of the decade...

I don't want to nitpick but RDR and Mass Effect 2 came out this decade but the other 3 games came out last decade.
" I don't want to nitpick but RDR and Mass Effect 2 came out this decade but the other 3 games came out last decade. "Perhaps he subscribes to the idea that decades start with the "XXX1" year rather than the "XXX0" year? So 2001-2010? Can't say I'd agree with it, but there's that...
1.Golden Sun: The Lost Age
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Metroid Prime
4. Fallout 3
5. Mass Effect 1+2
1) Morrowind (Best RPG)
2) Rome: Total War (Best historical strategy (with the EB mod installed))
3) Mount&Blade (A "medieval life simulator" with some of the most realistic melee in the industry)
4) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Some of the best shooting, IMO. The ballistics feel very realistic, it has great AI, all that good stuff)
5) Batman: Arkham Asylum (best brawler I have ever played)
These have been some of my favorite games of the decade. The first three, I'd say are my top three games of all time.
1. Max Payne (the best atmosphere in a game EVER.. never felt that way while playing a game)
2. Assassin's Creed (the visuals, the mechanics, the story.. what can i say its an all-round masterpiece)
3. Call of Duty (1 > 4 > 6 >>> 5 > 2 .. best shooter series ever made)
4. Battlefield 2 (best online experience ever)
5. Red Dead Redemption (no comment)
Runner-ups :
- GTA IV
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Half-Life 2
- Halo: Combat Evolved
Oooh, list time!
My top 5 for the '2000s'... in no particular order:
-Half-Life 2: Not much to say that hasn't been said before. This game is a triumph in every conceivable way.
-Resident Evil 4: That opening scene when the whole town comes after you is one of the most tense experiences of my gaming life.
-I Wanna Be the Guy: This game is notorious for its difficulty. It's definitely hard, but it's fair. Also, it's one of the funniest games I've ever played.
-Grand Theft Auto 3: While subsequent titles have improved on this title in many different ways, this was the one that still stays with me. My 'you had to be there' pick.
-Left 4 Dead: Normally, I'm not a big multiplayer fan. This game made me love it because you have to stick together to survive. I could play this game forever.
If I were to include 2010 then RDR and Mass Effect 2 would probably end up on my list as well but I consider it part of the new decade. So my favorites from 2000-2009:
1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
3. God of War
4. Call of Duty
5. Mass Effect
I'm going to assume he means 2000 - 2009, since he includes games from '09. In that case, not ranked:
- Half Life 2
- KOTOR
- Guitar Hero
- Wii Sports (Pretty much just the Wii)
- Street Fighter 4
This won't be in order. In fact, I'm not even going to number it, just so you guys don't get any wise ideas, wiseguys. Okay, so I'm doing this from 2001-2010, and I'm also increasing it to 10 so I don't have to split so many hairs over this.
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Fallout 3
- Resident Evil 4
- Metroid Prime
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Star Wars: Knights of the Republic
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- God of War
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
I was going to include an 11th game and see if anyone would notice, but uhh... I actually feel really good about these choices.
5: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
4: Sam and Max Season 2 (ie: Beyond Space and Time)
3: Ninja Gaiden Black
2: Beyond Good and Evil
1: Resident Evil 4
- Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Command And Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge or Generals - Zero Hour
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or Vice City
- Half Life 2
-Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is hands-down my favorite game ever. Ever. I liked the second one (I really liked it), but the problems it had brought it just under all-time favorite status. The first was just...really damned good. The only thing that disappointed me were the fact that there were no nukes (second game solved that problem in the most awesomely awesome way), the trees were indestructible (again, second game fixed it and let you catch them on fire), and there were no planes (none in the second either, sadface). I just hope that there's another Mercenaries in the works, even with Pandemic Studios closed down (fuck you EA, Fuck you).
-Halo's just awesome.
-Command And Conquer is my favorite RTS series; I still play both Zero Hour and Yuri's Revenge.
-Vice City was great, and I sunk tons of hours into San Andreas.
-Half Life 2...I'm still playing the hell out of that (Valve just gets more awesome).
Runners up: GTA IV + Episodes (mostly because of Euphoria), Fallout 3 (fun as hell, loved the world and settings, sunk a few hundred hours into it), Red Dead Redemption (came out this year), Ace Combat 6 (cannot fucking wait for Assault Horizon), or Command And Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars / Red Alert 3 (love 'em).
" @blacklabeldomm: No I actually got my first system in 1982, the colecovision of course... "weird in 10 years you only came up with 3 games? I cant even begin a top 5 list, it would take me at least a top 50 just to go through 2000-2009...
1. The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
2. Persona 4
3. Ninja Gaiden Black
4. Resident Evil 4
5. World of Warcraft.
Yeah 5 games total for 10 years is challenging to decide on, that's why I was curious what all of you would say. So many great games, but so many trumped by even greater games as the years went by. I guess that's why I stuck with later games as they are the ones I'm playing the most and are technically the best. The "funnest" 5 games would probably be an entirely different list for me....
- Ninja Gaiden
- Diablo II: Lord of Destruction
- Battlefield 2
- Super Street Fighter 4
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
2001-2010 then right?
Diablo II (Lord of Destruction means it counts anyway)
Half Life 2
Knights of the Old Republic (either this one or Morrowind)
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne (had to put a JRPG from the PS2 here to represent, easily could have put Shadow of the Colossus)
Red Dead Redemption (Mass Effect 2 or Uncharted 2 could have gone here too, but something about Red Dead and the chances it took with its story)
5 games in 10 years? I'd give up gaming if it were that easy.
In no particular order:
I can't leave out these games, either:
Super Mario Sunshine
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Grand Theft Auto 3
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Fallout 3
