I'm moving into a new apartment and getting rid of the crappy 13" TV I've been using for a bunch of years. Would you recommend getting a flat-screen TV or an LCD monitor? Is there a difference in quality? Keep in mind my budget is $150-200, so they're not going to be huge either way.

Thanks!

Hm, changed my mind a few times writing this reply.

For around $200 you could probably get a cheap 24'' monitor at 1920x1200, it wouldn't make much of a difference console gaming though since the majority of console games render at sub 720p.

Id probably try and save a few more bucks and get a 32'' TV.

Monitors don't have the same inputs as TV's. Monitors are usually stick to DVI, VGA and now HDMI is becoming more prevalent. TV's have RGB, RCA and multiple HDMI's (sometimes DVI).

For 200 bucks, I doubt you'll find a decent, big TV, but good luck. I'd recommend waiting a few months, save up and splurge on a real TV.

I agree but if the TC is the type of person that watches TV on his computer then he can get a 24" monitor to also play 360 games.

For that much money you should just get a monitor. You're not going to get HD for 200$ otherwise.

@CH3BURASHKA: Does the difference in inputs make one more or less preferable?

I guess my main concern is whether these 19-22" screens will have different qualities if they're a TV or a monitor, or if because they won't be HD it doesn't really matter?

Also, how much would a real TV go for? $300?

Just get a HD ready TV. If its a decent brand, it should double as a monitor (VGA input).

I think that they have the same quality and you can get an HD monitor (1080p) for around $200.

You know a 32" 1080p hdtv goes for $450-$500 which isn't cheap. A 24" 1080p monitor will be cheaper, however it's much smaller. You don't want anything smaller than a 23" or 24" for a pc monitor. There are a ton of junk 720p hdtvs out there, however 720p is unimpressive. I'm sure ppl will say it's what consoles use or under a certain size you won't see a difference, however I hate my 720p hdtv, using it as a monitor looks inferior, go 1080p if you can.
