So I went back to that thrift store and they had a copy of the expansion for Diablo II. Legit. (I checked the disc). If I install regular Diablo II and then that expansion, do I use the expansion as the game disc then?

Update it and you wont even need a disc. At least not on my digital distributed Battle.NET Diablo II.

Yeah do a full install, so you dont have to swap the disks for cinematic, though they can be skipped if they're not installed, but still, and the default disk becomes the expansion one.
