Valve announcing something "with a three" in it at E3

Well I must say I wasn't expecting this, I think the article covers the big things this could mean.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Portal 3 was announced, I really don't see them going back to Left 4 Dead, unless they really change things up for that series, L4D2 fleshed out the little things that the original missed. Portal 3 just seems the most likely, after 2 I think it would be really interesting to see where they go from there.

What does everyone else think/want this announcement to be?

Fuck they have a lot of series that reached 2 so far. Makes guessing way more difficult. I'm gonna go with Team Fortress 3: Now with Shirts.

It's 2 hours, a majority of such is cutscenes, and in the same old HL2 engine.

I'm hoping for Left 4 Dead 3 personally. I'll catch hell for saying this, but I never really got into half-life. Was playing other games at the time and now I just lack interest.

The next Half-Life needs to be an entirely new game with completely new content. I'm tired of using the same exact weapons fighting the same exact enemies (with one single new enemy per episode) in the same exact environments (the forest being the only new). The gravity gun needs an overhual (how about being able to pick up and throw portals or being able to rotate objects while your holding them) and there needs to be less bottlenecking.

PLEASE be less bottlenecking. The bad thing about not having cutscenes is that you can't skip them when its all ingame.

Its 3 within a 3 within a 3! Gordon Threeman has to go through three buildings to defuse three bombs and in realtime is is only 3hours and 33 minutes and 33 seconds you have to do it with the use of the only the 3 key.

It has to be half life 3. There is no point with keeping the episodes tacked on, its been like 4 years. That isn't very episodic.

I would be willing to bet that its both Half-life 3 and Portal 3 together. Valve doesn't tease like this unless they are planning a BIG announcement. Hell, they could also package in L4d 3 and call it "The Box of 3". Eh, eh? . . . No? Ok.

I'd take Team Fortress 3 over Half Life 3 at this point.

Those hoping for things other than HL3:

Half-Life spawned Counter-Strike, DoD, Natural Selection, The Specialists, Team Fortress, etc etc etc

Half-Life 2 spawned CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, Portal 1, Portal 2, L4D, L4D2, etc etc etc

Another Half-Life game is much more than simply another Half-Life game. It opens the door to a wide array of new and improved games. I fucking love how modifiable they've been.

You can say that you'd rather have Portal 3 or L4D3 over HL3, but ultimately their most innovative IP has always been Half-Life. And it's that innovation that leads to more imaginative and creative mods.

I agree that Portal 3 might be too quick but then again the same thing was said of Left 4 Dead 2 and that worked out eventually. Half-Life 3? Maybe. Half-Life 2: Episode 3? Also maybe. The lesson from this news story is that fuck me there's a lot of franchises they have that have gone only to 2.

Wouldn't everything that valve could announce have a 3 in it at this point? Isn't this just basically valve saying "Hey, guess what, we still make games!"

Episode's 3 development is so freaking long that I pretty much forgot all about it. With that being said, I can't think of anything else that can be in development other than Portal and L4D.

Bah, whatever. Either way it's over 3 years since November 2009 and holiday 2012 assuming it comes out then. I knew something was off about saying 2008 but I said fuck it.

I think the real question is whether Black Mesa: Source will come out. Man I had high hopes for that thing. Now that I think about it, it could have easily been a kickstarter nowadays.

Bold prediction: At E3, Valve announces Half Life 3 or Episode 3.

And it's finished and available for download on steam that day.

F.3.A.R. 4 or F.3.4.R.

HL3, L4D3, Portal 3, whatever. I'll be happy with any of those.

Some more than others, but happy nonetheless.
