Video game journalism - is it your passion?

My college graduation is fast approaching and while I have dug my feet deep into the water of several publications, I'm still a bit iffy about actually "getting out there."

I've always wanted to write for video game magazines and websites because it's the only thing I can see myself doing if the money is right. I've written a couple of reviews for my college and city newspaper and I've even been an editor for an entertainment section (in total, I have about 45 bylines). In fact, the main reason why I love GiantBomb is so I can actually practice writing reviews here and hopefully I get an eye from Pat Klepek, but that's wishful thinking, that and I haven't written another review because I was an editor for my college newspaper last semester.

The game industry is a toughie to get into and here I am making 100 copies of my resume and cover letters so I can mail them out (emails and follow up phone calls too). Let's hope that after countless re-attempts that I get through the door....somewhere.

Anyways, I created this topic for any like-minded writers who are trying to get their name out there and get into the business. I guess you can start off by explaining how long you've been writing, who have you written articles for and why you want to be a video game journalist.

I've written mock reviews with numbers and captions and everything in a spiral bound notebook. I don't know how people are ever confident cementing their opinion with a metric. It all feels very arbitrary.
