So I was on my ISP's homepage, checking my bill, and I saw a link to this article; http://www.lep.co.uk/lifestyle/gaming_addiction_grips_youngsters_1_773488,
Kotaku have a summary of it if you don't want to read the whole thing; http://kotaku.com/5548908/how-much-cocaine-is-two-hours-of-gaming-worth?
I can't begin to explain how pissed off this makes me. I have one question; when is gaming going to stop getting such a bad press?
Video Games are like Cocaine!

I can't be the only one that thinks there is some merit to saying games are addictive? I understand the outrage; addiction is a pretty loaded word. However, addicted does described a pretty decent chunk of gamers, especially of the teenage variety.
The cocaine comparison is probably over the top though.
Ya games are addictive. Just a form of Escapism though. It's no more addictive than anything else. Even less so because it nothing more than a mental addiction I would say.

I believe they did." I don't think this article actually answered the question "why are videogames like cocaine?" "
"A lot of young people get themselves into a situation where they use video games as an escape from the world and they get hooked on the release of adrenaline it gives," says Pope. "Spending two hours on a game station is equivalent to taking a line of cocaine in the high it produces."
It shouldn't piss you off, it should just learn you that there are stupid as well as insane people in the world, and a lot of people who don't know what the fuck they're talking about. When you start talking about kids that went for 24 hours without eating and threatened to jump out the window you're clearly just picking out the most extreme cases, instead of the average person. And kids like that have a lot more going on than video game addiction if they behave like that and any moron with more than two brain cells knows that. There are addictive qualities to games, especially stuff like World of Warcraft, but to then draw the conclusion that gaming as a whole can be compared to cocaine is maybe, slightly, just very slightly pushing it a little bit.
Sounds like bad parenting to me. Possibly even neglect.
The child has no form of discipline obviously. Never has.
Parents like that disgust me. Own up to your mistakes.
" Sounds like bad parenting to me. Possibly even neglect. The child has no form of discipline obviously. Never has. Parents like that disgust me. Own up to your mistakes. "I second that.
It's your fucking responsibility to raise your kids right. If they become addicted to video games, it's the parents' fault.
Parents shouldn't be putting the blame on others for their responsibilities.
If their kids do drugs, they're not raising the kids right.
And kids steal money from their parents for everything, not just video games and drugs.
They are taking a part out of the context and making a point out of it.
Are they really that stupid, putting up that kind of arguement.
" You can't snort a video game even a small DS cart but you can snort cocaine off a video game. "not unless you grind it to dust and then snort it.
