It only happens with certain Steam games, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this? When you relaunch VLC it says it crashed last time and asks if you want to send a bug report, I never bother.

It does it when playing in fullscreen mode for me. Windowed or borderless window modes are fine. Only certain games too. Civ 5 crashes it consistently but no problem with Diablo 3.

Yeah it's been a thing for years. Doesn't really bother me and has had no appreciable effect on anything. So yeah, nothing to really worry about.

Are you running VLC on a second screen or something when you play?

in preference->video->output try selecting something other than "automatic" and see if that helps. Try a few output modes. It's almost certainly an issue with GPU drivers and acceleration in VLC.
