As the title suggests, which game do you think has the best story?

The Homeworld series takes the cake in my book.

One of the things I like about Homeworld is that it doesn't overwhelm you with lore and needless background info that a lot of other games do. Add to that that Homeworld has one of the best soundtracks out there.

It also gets my vote for best ending to a game ever:

The Marathon series is a close second, though.

I will always remember Baldur's Gate's storyline. That was the truly the age of story telling.

I'd have to go with the Metal Gear Solid franchise. It has so much depth to it and it just seems to pull you in.

Half Life is awesome in it's obscurity.

Mass Effect is awesome in it's presentation and awesome characters. Saren and Sovereign are AMAZING.

Half Life, God of War I and II have great stories, obviously Bioshock (First 2/3) anyway, I am still waiting for the 2001 a space odyssey for video game stories, do you ever think stories will get this deep in the videogame format.

No simply because it easier to sit down and watch a movie for two to three hours, than to play a game and retain everything that happened for eight to ten hours. Not to mention the way of telling a story in a game is much harder than in a movie. I mean I guess it is possible, but it won't happen for a while.

On the game with the best story? Well I don't want to say this because I KNOW I will be criticized for this but probably the Halo series.

While I'll admit that I adore the Half-Life story, it's obscurity (most notably the importance of the G-Man) is what I've found infuriating.

Honestly, I think Valve is actually having trouble figuring out where this is all going and they have no overaching plan on what the overall story is about.

To me it might not be the best, but I do think it's very good. I played the third simply for the story. I used to like the gameplay when I played 1v1 years ago, but now I hate it.

I think Half life 2 (I have never finished the first) has a very good story, but it's especially good in storytelling. Their aren't any cutscenes and Gordon Freeman knows just as much as the player.

A coin toss between the most disturbing or the most awesome story i've experienced.

Silent Hill 2 or KOTOR.

Silent Hill 2 was unexpected and gory, having a twist that really tore the heart out and influenciated games like Dead Space.

KOTOR is the best massage to the ego, and has a story that spans the universe, philosophy, a well developed romance, giving me everything i wanted from it.

I always thought the Max Payne story was fucking badass. It's either that, or one of the many adventure games I've played. (Grim Fandango, the Monkey Island series or The Longest Journey)

For some reason Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) hooked me even though it was kinda stupid.  I liked the Vice City story but Bioshock was probably my favourite.  Always liked listening to the diaries.

Almost every Final Fantasy game has a great story, so did Lost Odyssey.
