We shouldn't be seeing ads like this

Seriously. It's dumb, and makes the site feel cheap. I get that you guys have bills to pay, but can't you get better shit than this? I thought one of the things WM was aiming for was better, smarter online advertising. This clearly is not what's happening. Stuff like this is what I would expect from a ghetto-ass blog in some obscure corner of the internet, not on a proper online business. I like these sites and want them to do well, but not in this manner.

In the past few days I've encountered far less shitty ads, in fact I want to say I've seen none, so I assume you guys made good. Great that Whiskey will actually respond to stuff like this. Thanks!

Who's we?

They have two types of ad deals. One, where they have ads directly from a company that has approached them. The obvious example is the Dead Island ones. The second type is that they have a relationship with a 3rd party ad provider, that has lists of ad providers and feeds them through the site. This second type Whiskey has very little control over, and they have been working with the ad provider to provide the best experience they can but from what I know this is a very difficult thing for them to do and must be worked out over time.

The idea behind the subscription model is so that Whiskey Media can be funded by the userbase and not have to get in deep with advertisers. I don't know if you know this, but Giantbomb has a history with ad revenue interfering with the job, and they want to prevent that kind of future.

I thought they said a while ago that they didn't ever want to get into showing these sorts of ads? It makes me sort of sad that they caved, but I suppose whatever keeps the lights on.

These are the kind of ads that bug me. I'm sick of the stereotype of gamers as overweight losers.

I thought this was going to be dealt with awhile ago? It really is some beneath the site to have shady ads of that caliber.

No ads where I live

These may be bad, but I was having ads that were either flash games that broke the formatting on GB/Tested, or videos that autoplayed with audio.

I have adblock disabled on all sites I frequent (so they can stay afloat), but I've just recently re-enabled it on Giantbomb for the time being. It's frustrating for me because I REALLY don't want to do that to the crew, but these ads are pretty bad.

Wow, I don't get these ads but if I did I probably wouldn't use the site any more. This shit will totally turn new users, potential subscribers away.

But isn't this exactly the kind of shit they said they were avoiding with subscriptions anyway!?

Remember when Jeff said they would be selective about the site's adds, only having ones that "pertained to our interests"?. Well that surely went down the drain. I turned ad block back on months ago because of this shit.

That is pretty gross. I don't see them, but I don't like the idea of that being on the site at all.

also remember that Jeff has said on many occasions about game publishers, they are businesses and they need to get paid, its the cold hard truth. So as much as i would like to think Jeff does disapprove of these ad's i am sure there is someone above him that looks at as dollars and cents nothing more. And thats why these kinds of ad's might always be around in some form.
