Ok, so I got mario world the other day, and for some reason, that game is hella hard for me. I keep dying. I dont know, maybe cause I havent palyed it in like 15 years, but even back than I didnt beat it. I know that the 16 bit gen was one of difficulty compared to today, but whats the point in buying adn investing in these old games If I keep dying and getting frustrated? I also couldnt beat sonic. I dont know, maybe I didnt really try as a kid, but still. Any games taht are really good, and are easy or very easy to beat?

Magic Knight Rayearth fulfills the easy part, yet Shining Force fulfills both.

Hmm I always thought Super Mario World was pretty easy compared to most of the other stuff that was out back then. Yoshi's Island is pretty easy as is Donkey Kong Country 1. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is also pretty easy. Turtles in Time is a joke in terms of difficulty. Anyone should be able to beat that game within a half hour. Same goes for the original Star Fox if you can make out what is on your screen.

snap that was a hell of a diss.

I'd recommend the Lion King game or the Toy Story game.
Seriously, how can you market those games to kids when they're as fucking hard as they are?

You should play through the first Super Star Wars gane. Then we'll see what you consider to be 'hard'. WE WILL SEE!

Plenty of awesome old school games are tough like that. Just the way it was back then.

Super Star Wars or Obelix and Asterix was pretty easy. Super Smash TV was also great fun and was relatively easy, but got harder as you progress.

I would like to add that Gen of gaming wasn't about beating the game it was more about challenging yourself, where as now a days a lot of games just want to tell a story like there a movie. When you get a good hard game like Super Ghouls and Ghost and play it like crazy you'll blow your mind just seeing how far you can really get. Just practice dude.

Golden Axe or any of the Streets of Rage games can be beaten with persistence (and about 2 hours of free time).

If you want an easy platformer, try Ristar, Animaniacs (the Genesis version) or Mickey Mania (which is not only the best Mickey Mouse game ever, but it's also the very first game that David "Let's see if I can shut the fuck up for 6 months" Jaffe worked on).

I never had an SNES so I can't really comment on those games, but Kirby games are normally super-easy to beat.

Streets of Rage 2 is the best game ever made.
Well for me it is anyway.

I would say to check out Dynamite Headdy but if you can't even complete Super Mario World then the second half of this game will rape your asshole inside out. Same with Splatterhouse 2

I was never fond of the SNES so I can't help you there. If you need more Megadrive games then feel free to ask- its a specialty of mine.

Well... what genre/style you looking for? I don't think I can only include "easy" games because honestly very few games were at all "easy" by todays standards.

It depends what you're into.  If like RPGs, which are almost always easier due to their turn-based nature, the SNES has some great ones, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Super Mario RPG.  Regardless of difficulty, though, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario World, and Super Metroid are worth the time and effort.  Others might disagree, but they are some of the finest games ever made.

Also, maybe you just need to change your mindset.  Games back then were rarely made to sit down and play through.  You started over and over again, but they trained you.  Part of the fun was slowly getting better at it as you discovered the games tricks.  Mario World in particular is great about systematically introducing you to different gameplay elements and gradually combining them in creative ways, which, if you recognize what the designers are doing in a given level, can really help you through the game.

OK, here's some off the top of my head* including the obvious ones. I believe all of these are must plays on the Megadrive.

Alien Soldier
Alien Storm
Batman (by Sunsoft)
The Story of Thor
Bonanza Brothers
Caslte of Illusion
World of Illusion (great co-op)
Castlevania Bloodlines
Columns
Columns III
Comix Zone
Contra Hard Corp (probably the furtherest thing away from 'easy')
Decap Attack
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (a really unique fighter)
Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (aka Pyro Pop)
Dynamite Headdy (my second favourite game of all time- I urge everyone to play this)
Earthworm Jim
Earthworm Jim 2
Ecco The Dolphin
Ecco- The Tides of Time (again- mindblowingly hard but worth playing)
Fatal Labyrinth (really, really simple but I've hooked on it on the 360)
Ghouls 'n Ghosts (another hard motherfucker)
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III (both sequels are inferior to the original game- but still worth playing)Gunstar Heroes
Kid Chameleon
Lemmings (better than the SNES version)
Lemmings 2: The Tribes
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (don't laugh- its actually a pretty damn good game if you bother to play it)
Micky Mania
Micro Machines '96 Championship Edition (the one with the track creator)
Mortal Kombat (the Megadrive version specifically is my favourite game in the whole series)
Mortal Kombat II
Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy (no thats not a typo- look it up- its better than most 'real MK games)
Outrun
Pulseman
Quackshot
Revenge of Shinobi
Ristar
Road Rash
Road Rash 2
Road Rash 3: World Tour (go with the latter 2 games if you have the choice)
Rocket Knight Adventures
Shadow Dancer (Shinobi spin-off)
Shinobi III- Revenge of the Ninja Master (yeah- I love my full titles)
Sonic Spinball
Sonic 1
Sonic 2 (the first game I ever owned)
Sonic 3 and Knuckles (they're rather crap separately but together they make the best Sonic game of all time)
Splatterhouse 2
Splatterhouse 3 (completely different style of game- if you don't like SH2, still give this one a try and vice-versa)
Street Fighter II (not going to name every damn variant- you know what this is)
Street Racer (a decent Mario Kart clone with some unique modes)
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2 (my favourite game of all time)
Bare Knuckle 3 (the uncensored version of SOR3 with a more balanced difficulty)
Sunset Riders (inferior to the SNES/arcade, but still a great game)
Super Hang On
Super Monaco GP
Super Thunder Blade
Tetris (actually the rarest version of Tetris ever made- you'd need a miracle and a huge load of cash to play this legit)
The Lion King
The Ooze
The Punisher (great Capcom beat-em-up)
Toejam and Earl (perfect co-op)
ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron

*By which I mean folders in my "chiptunes" folder

I would link these but I really should be in bed right now. If you want to know more about each one just search for it on GB. I might turn this into my first blog entry as I have a lot to say about each one of these.

Good luck. I really hope that helps because I've just spent about twenty minutes writing it. There's more, that list is just taken from the games I have the chiptunes of.

Yea I know what you mean, but lets face it the 2d era was just more challenging then this hold your hand gaming era that we have right now.  But in all truths those are my top favorite 16 bit games.  Practice makes perfect    :)

I had Super Mario World beat, with all of the secret enterances found when I was 9 years old, but maybe that's because I wasn't old enough to have developed the "I died so I'm going to go find something easier" mentality. It's like, I was dying, so I had to play more to get better. Are this generations gamers going to be completely soft when it comes to gaming in 15 years time?

I recently downloaded the ZNES emulator with about 200 games and played a bunch of em... most of them were actually surprisingly difficult. The ones I stuck with were Super Metroid (Not too hard, beat it as a kid), Chrono Trigger, the Mega Mans (which are much harder than I remember)... Earthworm Jim isn't too bad. Smash TV is fun to master. I dunno there's a bloody lot of games just play them!
