Shane Bettenhausen seems to think we'll see the DS2 and the PSP2 at this year's E3. I guess I'm more interested in what Sony will do with the PlayStation Portable line. Although it was clear that Sony meant well with the PSP, they really took one or two too many missteps. Chalk it up to inexperience in the handheld market. What direction do you think Sony should take the PSP2 in? I feel like the obvious answer would be "a second analog nub", but I was never really too bothered by stuff like that. I'm more interested to see if Sony can set up a WAP/3G/Amazon Kindle-like service, where you can get the internet anywhere, anytime. That obviously allows them to control piracy.

Even bigger, though, it would allow for a greater fleshing out of the PlayStation Store. I'm looking for more functionality in that respect. I want more PlayStation Store things. I want more things on the software side as opposed to hardware. The next DS is probably going to look equal with the original PSP. Sony don't need to stick more computer chips in there. For me, that's not what a handheld is about. I'm not interested in graphical prowess all that much. I want to see them do more with the PlayStation Store, natch.

EDIT: I meant to add "stronger online app-store-esque infrastructure to the iPhone option above, but I forgot. Consider it included if you will.

A touchscreen handheld trying to be a true games machine would be god awful. I think the iphone has proved that time and time again. I think the twin analog nubs and more power is really the only way to go with a PSP2. It would definitely shut up the majority of its critics too. So yeah, I vote that.

well thats a stupid POLL

i have read lots of legitimate rumors about the technology going into it.
they likened the graphics capabilities to that of the original XBOX. its going to be seriously awesome guys, since the graphics capabilities can be way better looking and yet perform much better than xbox's since the screen resolution is way less that a large tv.
it will probably be like the PSP, with 2 analogs, and then the screen will be touch sensitive.

BETTER GAMES!

In the end, those don't matter if there aren't good games.

The main problem with the current PSP isn't the hardware but the amount of good games on the system.

It's gotten better nowadays, but it's no match against the DS. I've bought at least 4 times the amount of DS games over PSP games. The only reason my PSP sees action is because of Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Portable.

By adding a second "nub" (lol nub) it would allow it to potentially be compatible with the also potential PS2 games at the PSN store. They have to be in the works. I mean can you imagine have a portable PS2? I would not mind that at all.

I just want them to make it as portable as possible. Besides software, the biggest reason I never used my PSP was because the thing was too damn big.

I'm not big on digital distribution, so I'd like to see them release another console with hard copies. Handhelds are around 10 years behind home consoles, so I see a 2011 PSP 2 with the graphical power of a PS2.

I think we will see a DS2 that is inline with the rumors currently in circulation.  I expect a DS2 to be a better version of DS and nothing more.  However, if Sony is going to showcase a new PSP, then I wonder what route they plan to take.  I currently fear that what they want to do is wiggle into the Iphone apps market, but if the PSP Go is any sign of how they are going to do this then disappointment is what they have in store for most potential PSP2 consumers.

What do I want from a PSP2?  I want a portable PS2.  That's all.

Sony has made lots of changes to the psp since its release. I know there are at least 5 different models of psps out there.Kind of like the way they did that to the playstation. Playstation>Playstation one> PSone. Yeah, I had to a project on game controllers for the leaving cert. Thats how I know look it up.

If Sony gives me...

  • A second analogue nub.
  • Better battery life.
  • Backwards compatibility with PSP games.
...I'll gladly give them my money.

Unless, of course, they make it a digital media only platform like the Go. In that case, all they're getting is my middle finger.

These 2 are a must. If I can't play my old games then Id be pissed. So that means keeping the UMDs, but maybe they can sort something out like with the 360 where you can install the game onto the hard drive and it only uses the UMD for clarification.

I think they need to do more with the PSP though, there's so much potential. I already love it how it is though, the console i'm playing most at the moment.
