I enjoy watching competitive matches of games I play.
What do you think of MLG?
I had a friend who was really into it and I ended up watching a few tournaments. Despite not really liking the online Halo scene much I actually enjoyed watching people play it competitively. They seemed so into it which was pretty cool. I have wanted to get back into it and watch the tournaments as they come but I totally keep forgetting...
I used to play MLG shit (Gamebattles), But half the people are lying douches and the mods don't do their jobs properly.
I can think of at least 10 different times where my clan took on another clan and won, We'd take pictures of the final scores for each round as proof. The other team would then go on and claim they won the match, We would then have to dispute it by submitting all our pictures of the scores while the other team submits nothing, And the mods would still side with the opposing team simply because they submitted their false victory before us, Even though they supplied no proof of victory and we did.
MLG sucks, And is filled to the brim with elitist douchebags who can't accept defeat.
The live MLG events I'm sure don't have these issues, But they still have the same elitist douches.
Bunch of virgins in a room playing Halo 3, Starcraft, WoW, and a bunch of other games. Not really that great of a thing. I've had more fun with my little brother playing Street Fighter 4.
I think it's dumb, tbh. People get way too serious about gaming in "professional" tournaments - they really treat it as though gaming takes the same amount of skill as any other professional sport, which isn't true at all. I'm all for cash prize tournaments, but one-time tournaments like at PAX and other conventions, not season-type stuff. I think MLG goes a little too far. Also, it promotes that really dumb "MLG PRO" culture in first person shooters, so that all the little kids on Xbox Live with their heads up their asses go around with huge e-peens whining about how everyone is "cheap" for using the noob tube.
" @Xolare: UMAD "No U. Nah, I just thinks it's more of a waste of time than anything. But of course, I guess most people have a hobby that's obscure and odd to most.
The concept is fine, games are made to be competitive, no reason not to recognize people who are good. But at the same time, it just reinforces the K/D crazed which is a pain in the ass if you're playing to win a match (TF2, BC2, etc)
I don't think the people that participate in Major League Gaming really give gamers a good reputation at all.
Any MLG player or people claiming to be MLG players have been absolute douchebags and going by this thread its par for the course. They also seem to be dedicated to tearing absolutely any fun element out of a game like those idiots who tried to make Smash Brothers a competitive game by playing on that one map with a tiny pool of characters. I have no time for gaming as a sport because it isn't one and gaming doesn't need these obnoxious children as its public face.
I think pretty much all competitive gaming is interesting and like that there's coverage of it out there. I can't possibly consume it all and still have time to, y'know, actually *play* games myself... but I am pretty glad that it exists. It's a lot of fun to watch people play your home game (whichever that may be) at a super high level of play. Sometimes you learn something, sometimes you laugh at it, and sometimes is just makes you sit back and go, "That was amazing. Videogames are awesome.". I'm totally behind that.
MLG ruins competative gaming for me. Makes gaming too serious. Gaming to me has always been about having fun but when it comes it MLG it takes all the fun out of games. Serious players tend to be real douches as well. Don't know why but my experience on gamebattles just left an imprint of the MLG crowd. I'm not saying gaming shouldn't become something like a sport in fact i more support that its becoming something of a sport. But when it comes to todays crowd for the MLG i just cant stand it.
I went for videogames should not be played like sports.
Games are relaxation, a form of escapism. MLG takes that idea, then throws it out the window. According to them gaming is a sport, and if you take games seriously enough you'll agree with that. But I don't agree with that. Gaming is entertainment, and watching sports is entertainment. If you take games seriously enough to try and get MLG 'skillz' on them, then you're an idiot and you should find something better to do with your time.
Yes, some people might like to play in an uber-competitive environment, but IMO, if you want that, get pro on PC games.
