What do you with your computer when your away?

I usually just turn it off but occasionally hibernate my laptop if I know that I'm going to back later that day. I have found myself using hibernate almost exclusively since being in Hungary for my English teaching practice because I'm having to think about lessons that I need to plan out for the next day therefore I don't want to have to wait on a fresh boot up if I need to do work

I always turn it off. SSDs reduce the startup time to a couple of seconds, so using sleep while you´re away is really fucking stupid.

You´re really just throwing money away, both from power usage and equipment wear.

I turn it off completely. Though if I'm just gonna be gone for 1-3h I might leave it on. Or if it's chugging on a big download, then I might leave it on overnight. Never when I'm out of the house though, too paranoid for that.

I don't use my laptop much now that I'm done with school so it's been off since I graduated. My desktop always gets turned off when I go to bed, because I don't like leaving it on and it is right next to my bed.

I just let her run. She'll be okay. My room is upstairs and the upstairs has no heat, so if I turn her off my room gets REALLY cold.

When I go to work/sleep/out I off it turn, but I when not there for hour or so I just sleep it.

When I go to sleep or I know I'm going to be out of the house for the whole day I will turn my laptop off but if I'm just going to be out for a few hours I'll just leave my laptop in sleep mode.

Turn it off. Power consumption matters, and modern computers boot so fast that sleep mode is almost irrelevant.

Unless I'm in the middle of using several programs and I'm only going out for an hour or something, then I might put it to sleep, I guess.

I turn it off. Saves electricity and I've got an SSD so the machine starts up in just a few seconds anyway.

Mostly sleep but I used to rarely turn it off before. I turn it off more now cuz boot time is great on Win 8

I don't turn machines off. My primary work rig has an uptime of three years. My primary server at the colo has an uptime of six years, right now.

SSD + Win 8 means I'm back in a flash, so I turn off every time. It used to be I didn't like the wait and I'd put it to sleep.

My comp randomly wakes up from Sleep on it's own, and instead of figuring out why, I just use shutdown. Try to wake me up again motherfucker.

Depends. I usually leave my laptop on during the day, except when I know I'm about to leave when a big storm is about to hit, but I turn it off before going to bed.

Depends on how long I intend to be away for. Usually I just leave it on though

When I sleep I keep it on playing show animated show on Netflix to put me to sleep. When I leave the house I turn it off.

I usually have several tabs with videos open when I leave the house, and I don't usually feel like writing down how far into them I've gotten, so I leave it in sleep mode 95% of the time.

My fridge is louder then my computer. I almost never turn it off.
