What game has the most satisfying shooting?
Be it Modern Warfare 2, or Battlefield Bad Company 2, maybe Borderlands? Or Counter Strike. Maybe you enjoy more "hardcore" games like ARMA II . Even non-FPS games like Max Payne, or Gears of War. I'm talking about games that revolve around the act of shooting dudes/things. As such I ask you what game succeeds in making the guns feel awesome.
What game "feels" good to you, that certain j'ne sais quoi that we feel when we push on the trigger on our controller or click our mice. Something so satisfying that the very act of shooting one bullet is an experience that almost transcends the game you're in. The acoustics are perfect, the act of hitting a dude is spot on. It keeps us coming back again and again.
Maybe tell us if you've shot an actual gun before and how has that changed your opinion on guns in games.
I've never shot a gun before. For me it's Bad Company 2, even shooting a lowly Soldier rifle feels and sounds amazing. I have memories of Black feeling great, but maybe my memory is failing me.
I always felt like Gears 2 had a great feeling. Mostly in the single player though.
I like the way that your guns tear pieces of flesh from your enemies.
I think other than that COD has the best feeling to the shooting.
No better feeling to me in MP than when you pull of a nice headshot and see the X pop up on the screen letting you know.
" Fallout 3 "Are you shitting me? ARE YOU SHITTING ME?! I love Fallout 3, but the shooting can suck my nuts.
Let's go more classic. We can do better than just Halo, although I do not dispute it has fine shooting.
I like the machine gun in Quake II. It's got a nice sound, it's fast, it's thick, and the recoil isn't that bad. It feels good.
I would say that Fallout 3's shooting CAN be very satisfying. Especially when limbs are getting blown off or exploding into lots of pieces, but for the most part, I'd say it isn't. The shooting in particular isn't one of the game's strong suits, and is there anything lamer than shooting a dude in the head-close range with a combat shotgun and seeing no real damage? Despite my love for the game, the shooting needs some work, but I think it still managed to get the job done and the gruesomeness of the kills could be very rewarding.
As for the question, man, I don't know. This is a tough one. But just for the heck of it, I'm gonna say Halo 2, because... because... I JUST MISS IT SO MUCH! :(
"Fallout 3 "
Woah.
woah woah woah.
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooah.
What?
I love that game, but no. The shooting is awful.
As for me? There was something about the shooting in Call of Pripyat that I really enjoyed.
And Max Payne. Yeah. What can I say? Bullettime, mfers.
Hmmmm. I'd say the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series of games does an amazing job of shooting (with mods/personal fixing. I hate range limits on guns in any game, so I always fix that when I can). You really feel the need to take cover and not just play Rambo, if you do you're dead within seconds.
Hmmm, that's all I can think of now. I'm sure there are other games out there with awesome shooting. I just can't name them now
COD 4, no contest. Bad Company is coming right along, though. Much better shooting in 2 than in the first game.
At one time I would have mentioned FEAR as well, but I replayed the game not long ago and it didn't seem as great as I remembered. FEAR 2 felt about the same.
I personally love the shooting in CSS or 1.6 for that matter. Counter-strike is the game I've played the most in my life, and I love that you can one-shot people if you get really good. I also enjoy Bad company 2, the sound of the enemies bullets flying past your head and the ability to take down a helicopter by shooting the pilot is really fun.
Call Of Duty, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are great. However, I can't really see how BFBC2 shooting is satisfying. From what little bit I've played, the bullet damage seems low, perceived recoil nonexistant, the sounds are a bit wimpy.
As far as the feeling of shooting, I always thought Half-Life 2 felt really well-balanced. Even the weakest pistol could kill a combine soldier with a well-placed shot, and each shot had the proper amount of kickback to it, both in the animation, the sound, and the vibration of the controller. So many games give you the sensation you're shooting spitwads at your enemies until you get one of the last weapons, but in HL2, it's satisfying to rely on the pistol alone, if you choose to.
" Left 4 Dead 2 "I don't know if this is sarcastic or not but I agree. May not be technically realistic but at least in L4D when you hit something it dies.
FEAR is the only game I've played that really manages to make the shooting feel like an act of violence. If it didn't have all of that stupid spooky little girl nonsense going on, I think FEAR would be rated up there with the classics.
Max Payne also felt pretty great. There's something about being in bullet time and watching a whole room getting ripped to shreds that I find really appealing.
First game I can think of when it comes to excellent feel of the shooting, is Killzone 2. The whole feel of moving the gun around and actually firing it is so hilariously good! The sound-work on the weapons is probably what makes it so good, in my opinion. Crysis also have some bloody enjoyable shooting. Just feels so natural with both games.

" @Tru3_Blu3 said:I too love Fallout 3. Don't think I've ever spent more time with a single player game EVAH, but the shooting really sux! Except for the VATS feature, but that really doesn't count as shooting now does it?" Fallout 3 "Are you shitting me? ARE YOU SHITTING ME?! I love Fallout 3, but the shooting can suck my nuts. "
