The original killzone was pretty awesome but its poor AI held it back so I'm gonna go with Half Life 2 just a smidge over COD4 because i enjoyed playing it so much more.

Shooting people was more satisfying for some reason and the slow-mo was really fun.

Uh, I'd say my favorite shooter of the last 7 years or so would have to be Half Life 2.  I just loved the atmosphere, story, guns, everything really.   I really wish I had played the first Half Life, but I was only 12 or so when it came out so I missed it... then after Half Life 2 I tried playing it.. but didn't get through the whole thing.

Anyways, a close tie for second would be F.E.A.R and Bioshock - I really got immersed into both those games.  Doom 3 was fun but I never managed to actually sit down and finish the game... And of course Episode 1 and 2 for Half Life 2 are great, though a little short.

Third is Far Cry.

Console (multi-player)

I loved the Timesplitters games, especially Timesplitters 3, and found them to be the best multiplayer experience (having never got a XBox or 360, I haven't played Halo too much) I had had at that point since Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark I think take the cake for the most fun shooters ever for me... I think it was the fact that they were relatively revolutionary for their time (graphics, 4 player split screen, so many crazy, new guns) that really makes them stand out as classics now.  The single player was solid in both games, and at least in Goldeneye presented challenges and awards for doing well that carried over into multiplayer.  And what a multiplayer it was... Still my 2 favorite and probably 'most played' multiplayer shooters ever!

Hands down, Half-Life 2 along with the episodes.

Not the best or my favorite but I thought that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was a fantastic game. It was such a huge turn around for the series.

But I still think Half-Life 1 is the best FPS ever created.

I would say the winner is Half Life  2, and COD4 is a close second.

All the Half Life's are awesome. I cannot wait for Episode 3.

But the original HL + the Opposing Force expansion, Halo: CE, Riddick and Gears of War are all awesome aswell.

As far as how all games stack up to date, not keeping in mind how great they were for their time, my top shooters are FEAR and Crysis. Crysis has some very tactical and intense firefights, and the nanosuit and sandbox nature of the game allows you to play the game many different ways. FEAR, while repetetive, has some very exciting gunplay, amazing AI, and the slow-mo is awesome.

I loved Deus Ex the most, even though I didn't exactly play it as a shooter.

Half Life and Rainbow Six for me, if I enjoy Gears 2 more than Gears 1, it will make the list as well.

Having only played so many shooters, I'll say Half-Life 2. But I must say each game is different. You have third person shooters up there and some tactical shooters.

Pretty much the entire Half-Life series.

Half-Life is great. Half-Life 2 is even better. Then the two episodes are even better than that.
