It's a common thing, unfortunately - our expectations are built up and then games just don't meet up to them.

Scribblenauts and Brutal Legend.

Two of my most anticipated games this year, and they were both just so disappointing.

Brutal Legend for sure.
After I had gotten the soundtrack from some competition there wasn't really any reason for me to play the game.

I remember getting so hyped up for the return of NiGHTS but when I finally played Journey of Dreams I was really let down. I beat the game and got A rank on everything but I still wish the game was a lot more like the original. Also, finding out the game was meant  to be on the 360 and PS3 didn't help either.

modern warfare 2 for the PC. i am happy that news of no dedicated servers would there. the no console thing. if they didn't say there was no dedicated servers then i think there would be even more disappointment.

gta 4, this was a big disappointment.  i was expecting a game like san andreas but instead they changed the concept around more then wanted.

gears of war, i was hoping for a better game. i just thought that i wasn't so special like how people were saying. i rented 2 and thought it was a little better then the first but still didn't like it.

Halo 2 - As an offline experience the game was okay at best.

GTA San Andreas - Starts off amazing but the story really loses focus about 30% the way through. It featured the largest world in the series but barely had anything interesting to do in some spots, leaving some parts of the game feeling barren. Unless you consider quarry missions and pizza delivery interesting.

I loved it at first.. But after it set in, it definitely felt like a huge downgrade from Morrowind.

Isnt there already a thread on this?

However, GTAIV for me. Not saying it was a bad game-its actually pretty good-but it isn't anywhere near the quality that was San Andreas/III/Vice City for me. Also, I had a blast playing 2 player San Andreas, which they cut out, and pretty much all of the missions inside GTAIV are forgettable-unlike some of San Andreas (going through the sewers on a motorcycle with an Uzi and 4 or 5 trucks behind you with Big Smoke was pretty awesome).

It may seem unfair relating GTAIV to San Andreas, but it was its prequel.

It'd take too long for me to list them all.

Didn't you just love how some people would change voice actors for different things they would say, most notably beggars. :P

The game that instantly comes to mind for me is Spore. When I first heard about that game I was laying awake at night absolutely mind-blown by the whole concept. I loved The Sims and Will Wright seemed to be back with an even more amazing idea. I followed that game so very closely all the way through its development and soaked up every tiny little piece of information I could get about it in an effort to see more and more of the realization of Wright's brilliant ideas. The game however was held back time and time again and it was years before the final product hit the shelves. Indeed Wright and his team had brought us a good game with some original concepts but it was nowhere near as good as the brilliant Spore that existed in my mind and was far from what I felt Spore could have been.

Generally I'd agree, but I found it was better when you only had one or two people on your team instead of four. Four was too many, but one/two was a challenge.

Borderlands on PC.

I really hope someone asks Randy, "What happened to the PC version being the best one?"

Unskippable intros
Horribly imported Gamespy
Gamespy
console menus
 pathetic use of mousewheel
No ping listings(Gamespy)
No way to contact someone except inviting them to the game you're in(Gamespy)
Locked FOV
No Steam support

I mean, this isn't even dedicated servers, this is BASIC stuff. I would go as far to say as Borderlands on PC is the worst port of the year.

Fallout 3. The gunplay wasn't doing it for me, wasn't a big fan of how the VATS system worked but I kinda liked the slo mo heads poppin. Then Borderlands came. Now my RPS dreams have come true.

Saints Row 2.
I was expecting a fun free roaming shooter with lots and lots to do while inbetween mission. What I got was a poorly cloned GTA IV that shoves retarded mini games into your mouth.

GT 5 Prologue.
I was expecting a fun, but realistic racer with amazing graphics. What I got was a racing game that put you to sleep before the first race ended. Even the visuals were so 'good' they were just plain boring.

LEGO Batman.
I was expecting a fun, cutesy Batman game. What I got was an at-first fun, cutesy Batman game whose LEGO disguise wore off pretty quickly.

Ridge Racer 7.
I was expecting a fun sequel to the awesome Ridge Racer 5. What I got was just a sequel to Ridge Racer 5.

Gears of War 2: Nearly half a year after the game launched and they still hadn't fixed the online. I tried it recently and it worked perfectly, but it's too late, because I won't be buying the next Gear of War because of the poor online at launch for both 1 and 2.

Grand Theft Auto 4: This game fucking sucked because of one reason: the gameplay. Sure the graphics were pretty nice, the story was pretty good and most other aspects were good. The gameplay was fucking terrible though. Movement was sluggish, firing was sluggish, aiming was sluggish, cover system was half baked....the list goes on. How this game manages to get so much critical acclaim and game of the year awards is beyond me.

Every RPG in existence: This may have more to do with the fact that all turn based (and most real time) RPGs just flat out suck. Yeah that's right, I think they suck. My opinion. Deal with it.
