Don't press the big red button on the site....wait...NOOOO!!!! *Site's html explodes and dies*, and that's why it's called "Giant Bomb"

Oh no you don't. I've modded many sites, never have I felt the time I put in was ultimately worth it. Infact it often drove me away from the website. From my experience anyway.

But, uh, I'm sure Endogene will love it :D

You've been drafted in our officially unofficial war with that other site. You will not protest, and you will enjoy the privledge of fighting for GiantBomb, or else.

Listen to this man. Adolescents across the web dream of being a mod, not for the job, for the status. They don't realize the restrait and maturity required to do it, and end up hating it.
Of course, Giant Bomb is different. If you haven't noticed, we all lack maturity and show NO restraint. Party on!

Listen to these guys!
In fact I was a mod here, but I dropped out because, well, read my blog!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hello, just wanted to warn some of you that I officially stepped down from my moderator position. Does this mean I'm leaving Giant Bomb? No, it just means that I'm not a mod from this day forward. So, why did I do it?

Well, there are two primary reasons. First, I don't have nearly as much free time as I had when I first started my moderator duties. For the past 60 days, I haven't been able to work in the submission queue as long as I would have liked. Hopefully, by stepping down, I can make room for someone more fit for the job.

Secondly, I just want to be a "normal" member. Stepping down gives me the chance to focus more on enjoying the site, rather than sitting in a queue. Finally, I'm normal, and I'm loving every last bit of it!!! :)

And trust me, being a moderator isn't all that fun. I know most of you on Giant Bomb have hopes of becoming a moderator, and that's great. I'm sure there are some of you out there that would make excellent mods. But a lot of you (and I'm sure of it) just want the job to gain "status" on GB, or to become popular, or respected, or.... for whatever reason. Truth is, if you want the position for any reason other than just "helping out GB", then this job isn't for you. To be a mod, you need to have a strong desire to help, you need to be ambitious, and you need to have some good leadership qualities. And let me tell you, once you ARE a mod, it's fun for about a week.... but then you start to realize that there is more to being a mod than the respect or status you gain, and that's when you look at yourself and you start thinking, "Am I really fit for this? Do I really have the will and desire to work at the best of my abilities?"

Also, another thing I want to bring up- the moderators here are a nice bunch. There may be some of you out there that are holding a grudge against a mod or two, or even some that just hate authority in general.... but let me assure you, every single mod on the team is a friendly, normal, hardcore gamer, just like me and you. I've been in the moderator chat, I've been in the moderator forums (there is a super secret section for them, hehe), and I have yet to see any "secret plans" to harass the members here. These guys aren't here to make it tough for you, they're here to help. They don't enjoy banning anyone or locking anything. That would just be plain sick. (Or maybe Gamespot, haha.)

So, with that, this brings this blog entry to a close, and thanks for reading."

Ha.  Oops.  I did that last night after some conversation with a couple of the other mods.  After I shut down my computer I realized I didn't let you guys know.  I was in the process of pm'ing you guys now.  Basically some of the "innactive" mods have been removed and it was suggested you guys were suckers....I mean contenders to take on the responsibility.

To others, if you are interested, please don't ask (or beg) to become one.  We're actually looking to remove some more.  We don't need a community of mods as much as everyone would love to be one.  More mods will be removed so we have a tighter group.  If and when the need for more comes up, we will seek you out.  To those being 'removed' it's nothing personal.  I can't express how thankful I am to all the mods we have here.

Maybe it's different 'cuz he didn't beg me.  I can't tell you how many times (at CV) I'd get users asking to be a mod (some when they've only been on the site for like a week).   The basic thing is, if anyone has a desire to be one, yes they can make it known.  We do watch over and see who is or is not a good candidate.  When the time comes, we pretty much know who would be good and approach that person.  The reason it was a bit of a surprise here is because the talk had happened before and I found a few moments away from the combine/delete boards, AV and CV to make it happen.  So to those that want to be a mod and are not currently one, keep doing what you're doing.  As I said, we can't have a ton of mods, it just doesn't work.  But perhaps one day I can make that dream come true...

It's our style.  We potato bag worthy people and send them to an unknown location to begin the ritual of mod status.

Congrats, have fun dealing with spammers, porn threads, general idiocy, and Levio.

I haven't been too active on it lately but I have moderation powers on another site, it gets crazy sometimes.

Actually it is quite interesting to see the variety of things people are submitting to the site.

The anti-spam facility was off on those forums once...72 threads of goatse to clean up. Maybe you'll have the same sort of fun >.>

high post count, large amount of points=requirements for being a mod from my time online and thats a long time.
And no im not jealous im too busy to be a mod, but that seems to be the jist of how to become a mod accross any site, lots of posts, lots of points no real need for substance or the like in posts.
the above is opinion only and quaintifies no guranties of quality.

You'll quickly come to hate it. Being a moderator on a popular site is fun for two weeks, then it gets annoying.

MattyFTM's dreams have been crushed.

Edit: CONGRATULATIONS, ENDOGENE! On a moar srs noat, congratulations. It would have been priceless if no one told you that you were in the running to become a mod and just slapped the title on you. That would have been some good fun. You also have more than 35,000 points and that is pretty sweet. Good luck, just remember to give my submissions the green light without looking at them.

Well, you made some good choices. I've actually never spoken to Bodega, but he is a real help here at the site. Endogene is a good guy and he's all over the wiki like an Endogene on a wiki. Wait. A. Minute.

Despite the fact that I have a plan for world domination, becoming a mod is not one of the stages in that plan.

Nah.  I posted in our private chat place that it was something the guys felt we needed.  Some volunteered already to step down.  It's understandable that people cannot devote their entire lives to this place (why, I'm not really sure) but it's good to rotate things.  Being a mod can be fun but as you can imagine, there is also some not-so-fun stuff that goes along with it.

but, I think you guys are all forgetting the most important thing...

Aliases, oh yeah!

The more mods we have working on Aliases, the better!
