Uncharted. As it is probably the franchise I enjoyed more, with the complete rundown of the relationships between the characters, gorgeous locations and setpieces.

And which is it for you?

#2 Posted by mandude (2670 posts) -

Hmm, I know that it's PC and isn't strictly confined to generations, but the Witcher is probably the best series in recent memory.

I agree with Uncharted, with a special mention to Dragon Age.

As much Ubisoft has milked Assassin's Creed, I have enjoyed every iteration of the series for one reason or another. Revelations, in particular, was very much a character driven storyline and I loved every minute of it.

So, Assassin's Creed for me.

Dead Space and Mass Effect.

Uncharted and Dead Rising.

#8 Posted by Vexxan (4625 posts) -

I'm gonna say Gears of War, despite it's lack of story depth in the first two games. Haven't played other big hits like Assassin's Creed or Uncharted but I'm certain they could give Gears of War a run for its money.

Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect and Gears of War off the top of my head. Special mention goes out to Bayonetta, but it's not technically a series.

Gears of War.

Others I enjoyed were Assassin's Creed, Left 4 Dead, Dead Space and Dead Rising.

Several people before you did in fact mention Mass Effect.

You can add another, as I will say Mass Effect as well. I would also say Bioshock, but Bioshock 2 can go die a horrible, painful death. Infinite looks pretty awesome though.

Sorry didn't notice that, but I only see two people who have.

Mass Effect or Assasin's Creed.

The problem I have is there are so many! Though bioshock, uncharted, infamous and mass effect stand out to me

#15 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8734 posts) -

Mass Effect.

#16 Posted by joshthebear (2704 posts) -

Bioshock or Borderlands.

Mass Effect, Batman and Alan Wake.

Mass Effect and Gears of War.

  1. Uncharted
  2. Batman's Arkham (It might be a "sub-franchise", but I'm counting it)
  3. Mass Effect
  4. Assassin's Creed
  5. Saint's Row

Assassin's Creed get my vote, and the next one looks like it will be dope.

2. Bioshock

2. Assassin's Creed

Mass Effect

Saints Row

Gears of War

Mass Effect, Portal & Uncharted would probably be my favourite.

After Dragon Age: Origins came out I would have said for sure that it would have been worth a place on the top 'chise list, but man they shat the bed on DA2.

Dead Space - it's incredibly original and near flawless in execution of a genre that is plagued with poor controls and awful gameplay.

Yup.

I have no idea which one to picked, but some of the franchises are:
Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War and Batman.

#31 Posted by BulletproofMonk (2734 posts) -

Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, Portal.

I love the Portal games. The endgame of Portal 2 can be a bit frustrating--I thought the goo worked against the spirit of that franchise a bit--but the original Portal might be the closest thing to a perfect game I've ever played.

Mass Effect is an obvious selection, in spite of the ire Mass Effect 3 has stirred. Someone mentioned the Arkham games, which is a smart choice.

It might very well be Portal, when I stop to think about it.

Mass Effect, the franchise i put the most hours in that wasn't an MMO.

#34 Posted by Deranged (1944 posts) -
  • Gears of War
  • Mass Effect
  • Assassins Creed

I'm going to be a little different and say Rock Band. The main titles always try to add something new with each game (better options of sorting your music, pro-modes, keyboard), it's fun to play on your own and there's always new music coming out either through weekly DLC or the Rock Band Network so you never run out of new music to play on each instrument, and it's an absolute blast to bring out at parties.

Gears and Dead Space are my favorites this generation.

Portal.

#38 Posted by believer258 (12957 posts) -

I feel that Bioshock, Gears of War, Portal, and Dead Space are the best IP's that got their start during this generation. I haven't played Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect has too many gameplay issues, and pretty much all of those PS3 exclusives are "meh" to me. Yes, I can't seem to make myself play Uncharted, InFamous, or the first two Resistance games. Resistance 3 is the exception rather than the rule.

Something that wasn't mentioned yet Professor Layton.

Probably Uncharted.

#45 Edited by rm082e (219 posts) -
  • Gameplay - Gears of War
  • Atmosphere & Mood - Dead Space
  • Story - Assassin's or Mass Effect. Can't say yet as I haven't played them all. Bioshock may be better than both.
  • Pure Unadulterated Awesomeness - Demon's Souls/Dark Souls
#46 Posted by Masha2932 (1331 posts) -

Bioshock, Just Cause.

Mass Effect. Gears of War. Bioshock

#48 Edited by zombie2011 (5269 posts) -

Mass Effect, Gears of War, Assassins Creed.

Also Darksiders, I've only played one Zelda game and it wasn't to completion so everything Darksiders did was sort of new to me.

#49 Posted by Bollard (6517 posts) -

Assassin's Creed, or Portal.

#50 Posted by Elazul (1345 posts) -

Mass Effect and Rock Band are probably my favorites. Honourable mentions to Condemned, Assassin's Creed and Geometry Wars.
