What games will you be playing most/catching up on this summer? I'm trying to play through Persona 3 first and foremost though I'm afraid of my save file getting corrupted again.
What is your summer game playlist?
I've never played an SMT game in my life, so this year is going to be the year of SMT for me. I've already sunk in a few dozen hours into Strange Journey but I feel like diving into the PS2's library of SMT games while I give that game a break. So I'm probably going to be playing a lot of Persona and Nocturne this summer.
- Dark Souls (Almost Finished)
- Team Fortress 2 (the addiction never ends)
- Don't Starve (pretty interesting game in 10 minute chunks)
- SoulCalibur V (got it for cheap and its pretty damn fun)
- Injustice (Its all the rage with my friends right now so gotta brush up)
- Dive Kick (when it releases)
Persona 4
Persona 4: Arena's story mode, after finishing P4
Team Fortress 2
Counter Strike 1.6 and Source
Last of Us
Possibly the original Deus Ex. I've been meaning to play it again.
-The last of us
- Ni No Kuni
- Banjo N&B
- Dark Souls
- Infamous 2
And multiple xbla titles
Not enough time...
My backlog is gigantic, but the games I really want to play on that list are definitely the minority. I don't know how many of them I'll get to, since I have a bunch of other non-gaming stuff I really should be spending more time on this summer. I have no idea how everything will shake out. However, the ones I'm most likely going to get around to are:
- Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (already about 15 hours into this, going to finish it soon)
- Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (really looking forward to this)
- Pandora's Tower (super intrigued by the premise, not so much by the gameplay)
- Yakuza 4
- Devil Survivor Overclocked
Odds are, I'll spend a bunch of time replaying stuff too. Another run of Dark Souls is mandatory before the new one. I wouldn't mind a fourth time through Dragon Age: Origins either. Maybe another go at Skyrim, now that I have a new graphics card? I have a tendency to jump around with my game time, so I really have no clue how things will go over the next few months.
The games I'm playing right now are Dark Souls (about 30 hours played) and Valkyrie Profile (less than an hour played, started it last night).
Shin Megami Tensei IV is the one I hope will take up most of time though.
Other games I'm considering playing soon:
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
The Last of Us
Project X Zone
State of Decay
Shadow Hearts Covenant
Wizardry 8
all in all, this will most likely be a memorable summer.
Just finished Star Trek (not great, but not nearly as bad as most of its reviews would indicate, if you ask me). The stack I made on my entertainment center last week now looks like this now:
Lost Planet 2
Majin and Forsaken Kingdom
TombRaider
Max Payne 3
Hitman: Absolution
That should take me through the next few weeks. After that, well... let's just say I have plenty in my backlog to keep me busy for a while.
Can't think of many games, but I picked up Lost Odyssey months ago and I've barely touched it. I've never really been a huge JRPG fan, but it seemed interesting so I'll probably give that a go throughout the summer. Aside from that I can't really think of much.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII and IX, Resident Evil 4 and 6, Tomb Raider, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, VVVVVV, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Nier, Trinity Souls of Zill O'll, and presumably Last of Us
I keep meaning to finish off Fire Emblem: Awakening. I hope to do that, play as at least four more countries before the new Civ V expansion hits, and maybe finally start in on Risen 2. I'm also thinking about replaying Heavy Rain. We'll see how that goes.
I'm an adult so summer is no different from any other time of the year for me. So I guess my current backlog of never shrinking games that I always have on the go. The list is even more depressing knowing how large it is and that the new systems will be coming out so soon. I will feel like a major douche the day I buy a new system and still have all of those games on my backlog. I would like to make a goal with myself to not buy a new platform until I have beaten my backlog for the previous generation, but deep down I know I will never keep it. Unless I lose my job or something.
Holy hell. I just realized my backlog has several PS2 games on it. Fuck my life. I'm going to have a PS4 and still have PS2 games to play... WHY COULDN'T I HAVE HAD THIS MANY GAMES WHEN I WAS A KID AND COULD PLAY THEM ALL?!?!?
Metro Last Light and Deadly Premonition Directors cut for sure.
Trying to find a copy of Persona 3 FES so I can play everything that happens in the actual FES part. And i'm on the lookout for a copy of Final Fantasy 6.
And i'm going to pick up a MMO so I can get in deep during the lazy days.
- Baldur's Gate II
- Final Fantasy XII International
- Wizardry VII
- Ehhh... maybe The Last Remnant? Vampire the Masquerade?
@therealmoot: P3 FES is $10 on PSN. Well at least in the North American store.
I'm still catching up on everything I missed last year when I was travelling.
Started XCOM about an hour ago
Then onto an RPG, which will be either Witcher 2, Amular or Darksiders 2. Either way, I have them in my backlog.
In between I need to find time to play Halo 4, LittleBigPlanetKarting and Ratchet & Clank Q-force. Possibly giving Assasins Creed 3 another shot.
I'm 3 hours into the latest Layton, have Rhythm Thief lined up after that and Project X Force on the way for the 3ds. Those shoud be be my carry around time killers.
But with Animal Cossing on the way, I'll probably just end up,playing that.
One nice thing is that I'll be so far behind on this years releases, I'll be able to grab them cheap.
I've pretty much caught up on all the major games from the last 12 months.
So.....
- Fire Emblem Awakening
- Ni No Kuni (2/3 the way through)
- Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
- Kentucky Route Zero
- The last of Us (Already Pre-ordered)
- The Swapper
- ?Remember Me? (I've heard less than great things, but I might still Gamefly it.)
- Resonance
- Persona 3 portable (I'm right at the end and haven't progressed for 2 years. Time to change that.)
- Super Metroid (I call bulshit on Jeff. That game is not a few hours long, especially if you play it blindly without online aid. I know you can get through it pretty fast if you know what to do, but playing it through for the first time is a very drawn out affair. Maybe I'm just bad at Video Games.)
- Valkryia Chronicles ( I completely forgot I never finished it.)
Later this year I probably won't have enough time to play all the games coming out, let alone these. Thank goodness for this summer lull!
I've really lost interest in gaming.
Happens to the best of us. Sometimes it's good to take a break for a while so you can come back with a fresh perspective later on.
Catching up on all the games I need to complete, a few are:
- Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (Focusing on this right now)
- Fallout 3 (Yeah I know I need to beat it)
- GTA 4 (Another game from 08)
- Liberty City Stories
- Saints Row The Third
- Just Cause 2
- Batman Arkham City
- Red Fraction Guerilla
There are just a few games I need to beat.
I've just finished disc one of Final Fantasy IX, i guess i'll try to actually finish it this time.
Speaking of Final Fantasy i'll probably be buying XIV: ARR, i've been playing the alpha/betas and it's a big step up from 1.0.
Also i can't wait for the last of us, it's going to be great!
- My entire Steam library
Good fuckmothering luck with that.
- Super Metroid (I call bulshit on Jeff. That game is not a few hours long, especially if you play it blindly without online aid. I know you can get through it pretty fast if you know what to do, but playing it through for the first time is a very drawn out affair. Maybe I'm just bad at Video Games.)
Metroid 1 and 2 are not particularly long either, but they're hard, very hard, so they wind up feeling a lot longer because you spent forever trying to explore without getting killed. You can only have four energy blocks and can only carry one weapon with you, and in the original you start with only 30 health. Super Metroid has a much better sense of difficulty, so you aren't retrying things as often. Also, after beating that game a billion times I can pretty much play it on autopilot and finish it in a sitting or two, which is what I imagine happened to Jeff. The first time should take you quite a while.
Ah, now, for my own list. I plan on playing:
- Fire Emblem Awakening
- Etrian Odyssey IV
- Deus Ex Human Revolution (again)
- Shin Megami Tensei IV
- Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
- Ocarina of Time (on 3DS)
- Dragon Age Origins
- and Final Fantasy VI, X, and/or XII
And like last summer I'll probably go into some nostalgia and beat some SNES games, Super Metroid most likely among them. I also want to see what the Metroid Prime Trilogy looks and plays like on Dolphin, what with the HD resolutions and the proper mouse control and all.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, and I need to beat The Witcher 2 at some point. Ugh, I wish that game's combat didn't seemingly consist of nothing but the dodge button and an occasional swipe. Might just put aside my pride and knock it down to easy.

My calling of bullshit specifically refers to Jeff saying on UP a while back that he got the game near launch day and played it through the first time beating it in a couple of hours. I completely understand it being short in subsequent playthroughs.
After not having had time to properly play any games for about two months, I'm ramming through Resistance at the moment, then Resistance 2 after that. It might be the fact that I haven't played in a long while, but I'm having fun time with the first game at least. Decent shootery with a fun setting, works for me! After these two, I'll be tackling The Last of Us. Having high hopes for that.
...but after those, I'm not sure. Probably will catch up with some unfinished games I own, but I don't think there's any major releases coming 'till August (Lost Planet 3 might be good...?!) or October with Beyond - Two Souls. That's not counting indie/otherwise downloadable games appearing out of the blue, so we'll see how it goes.
So much backlog:
- The Book of Unwritten Tales (Just Finished)
- Ni No Kuni (1/5 way done?)
- Xcom (6 missions in)
- Demon's Souls (Half Way)
- Dark Souls
- Resonance (3/4)
- Valkyria Chronicles (3/4)
- Jean De Arc (3/4)
- Ultima IV
- The Witcher (1/2?)
- Mark of the Ninja
Currently finishing up Skyward Sword, I'm maybe around the 3/4 mark. After that I'm thinking Fez or Bioshock 2 or perhaps Dark Souls, which is not on the list as I acquired it after the list was made. I should probably amend the list.
Hopefully....
- Dark Souls
- Tiger Woods 14, Legends of the Majors
- Max Payne 3
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Forza Horizon
- XCOM - Enemy Unknown
- Max Payne 3
- Bioshock Infinite, 1999 mode
- Skyrim, finally do the main quest after 100 hours in the game.
- Assassin Creed 3
- Tomb Raider
Most Likely...
- Dark Souls
Shadow Hearts Covenant
I hope you don't mind, but I took the time to trim some fat from your list and make it more manageable. No need to beat around the bush when you can just play THE GREATEST GAME EVER MADE.
Here's what I'm hoping to get through over the summer. Some I've already beaten and just want to play again. From the looks of things, I should be busy for quite some time.
- Animal Crossing New Leaf
- The Last of Us
- Shin Megami Tensei IV
- Civilization V BNW
- Fire Emblem Awakening
- Bioshock Infinite
- dmc Devil May Cry
- Persona 4 Golden
- Mario Kart 7
- Devil Survivor Overclocked
- Ocarina of Time (3DS)
- Deus Ex HR
- Tomb Raider
Seems like there'll be a fair amount of new releases/content to keep me busy including
- Remember Me
- The Last of Us
- Borderlands 2 D&D themed DLC
- New Super Luigi U
- Animal Crossing New Leaf
- Dishonored DLC
- Pikmin 3
- Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros
And if we're counting August
- The Wonderful 101
- Saints Row IV
- The Bureau
In terms of the backlog, I'm not sure, thanks to PS+ I've got Okami HD sitting on my PS3's hard drive that I want to go back to and finish off, I've also barely touched Hitman Absolution. Demon's Souls is another PS+ game I'd like to get around to playing. I also haven't gotten around playing through God of War Ascension after having put it off thanks to the dodgy audio (which has since been patched). I've got Zelda Oracle of Seasons/Ages to play through and I'd like to finish the playthrough of Super Metroid I started on the WiiU VC. I also haven't finished Fire Emblem Awakening. I'll likely continue playing the Rayman Legends Challenges app on WiiU every goddamn day because it is awesome. I might delve back into Skyrim to tackle a bunch of questlines I've yet to do and haven't played it since the beginning of the year. I also haven't gotten around to playing Metal Gear Rising's two story DLC add-ons.
I wouldn't mind picking up Dead Space 3's DLC, since I actually loved the game. Another bit of DLC I'd like to check out is AC3's Tyrrany of King Washington stuff.
So yeah, a bit spoilt for choice, really.
