Poll What should I name my youtube channel? (70 votes)

Dice & Mice (you know, like computer mouse - realized there's a board game kickstarter with this name, so . . . maybe not?) 16%
Geeked for Games 1%
Games with Sir Geeksalot 6%
Nate of Games 13%
Swinging Sword Game Talk 1%
WASD20 34%
Other - suggest away! please! 29%

Hey duders, I'm trying to decide on a name for my YouTube channel. Just recorded my first video last night about my impressions of the Pathfinder Beginner Box from Paizo.

The channel will be all about games (PC/video games and tabletop RPG mostly). I'm a life long video gamer, but just starting to get into tabletop RPG and hoping to document my progress in that realm. I’ll give impressions, reviews, walkthroughs, discussions with friends, etc. about game related stuff and sometimes maybe more general geek culture stuff (tech, movies, shows, etc.). Thanks for the input and feel free to offer any advice about naming a youtube channel.

@nate "WASD20" is pretty damn good. Clever and instantly descriptive (only for those who know what a d20 is, of course, but anyone watching your stuff in the first place would probably already get it). A tad groan-worthy perhaps, but I kind of like that too. Go for it!

Also, Swinging Sword Game Talk makes me think of penises, but maybe that's just me.

WASD20 is the perfect combination of groan-worthy and stupid (in a good way!)

That's my vote.

@siroptimusprime@joshwent@deadpancakes Follow up question: Would you say just WASD20 (or maybe WASd20) or something added to it to make it more obvious (and perhaps make it show better in searches to get more traffic) what my channel is about to those not on the "geeky inside". ??

For example WASD20 Games, WASD20 gametalk, WASD20 Geek, WASD20 game geek, etc.

Yep, I'm way over-thinking this.

@nate: Funny, I was actually going to suggest you make that 'd' lowercase, until I wrote it out that way and thought it looked awkward. WASd20 looks like the word 'was', as if you're talking about rolling dice in the past, or something. It looses the 'WASD' part. It's really great as is.

And I'd recommend against adding another word. It's a good idea to try and communicate more about the content of the show, but it's also important to keep the name short and memorable. Also, I'm no expert, but I feel like people are more likely to click a video based off of its main image than its name, so you could always have a consistent logo, but then add images to it based off of what's covered in that episode. And of course, your titles of individual episodes will probably include a short description anyway, so a longer name would just be redundant. For example:

WASD20 episode 01 - Pathfinder Beginner Box

No reason to specify, "Hey, this is about tabletop geeky stuff!", if folks can clearly see that this episode is about tabletop geeky stuff.

Now you've got me over thinking it too. ;)

All in all, your name doesn't matter. I subscribe to tons of folks on YouTube and I don't even know what their names are, but their videos were good, so I hit that little red button. Make something engaging, and don't sweat the small stuff.

(And make sure you wear women's trousers)

"Nathan's Nook" or "Nathaniel's Nook"

insert extra X's or Z's for whatever level of extreme you may want to go for.

My vote going towards WASD20 because the others are a little too generic.

Yeah, my initial thought when you wrote out "WASd20" was that it'd be easier to understand, but after looking at it a bit more, all I could see was the word "was." If you had to add another word, of the ones you listed, WASD20 Games is probably what I'd go for.

Mice & Dice rolls off my tongue a little nicer than Dice & Mice.

  1. If your venture from videogamer to table-top gamer goes anything like mine you're gonna want a name that invokes both video and table-top gaming.
  2. I implore you to avoid anything with "Geek" in it.
  3. I'm going to be stuck trying to think of Nate rhymes and puns for the rest of the day.

WASD20 is pretty solid. You could also create some kind of amalgamation from the video game name generator.

I just started a channel, Digital Wasteland, and the name is a combination of stuff that came from there.

Dice and Mice sounds good. Anything with "geek" in the title sounds terrible, sorry.

Nate of Games can have "Ace of Spades" as a theme song, except replace everything video game related. Like, "You know I'm born to lose/And gaming is for fools/But that's the way I like it, noob/I don't want to grind forever/And don't forget Luigi!"

That should go really well.

Actually, that's probably par for the course for YouTube introductions.

The result! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK8pA4Yhcss

Sound and video quality not great. I used Movie Maker. Might need to invest in Sony Vegas or something. Anyone have other good programs that wouldn't cost so much? (or free!)

I voted for "Nate of Games." It took me a while to see what was clever about WASD20 because I pronounce "WASD" as one word, but a good logo and saying it out loud would help with that. I'm also on board for any "Nate" Related puns.

edit: something like this

@tom_omb: I do, but thanks! It means a lot that you'd take the time to do that :) I don't claim my logo is any good. I'm not an artist. Just like to doodle.
