What top 5 fighting games for the console are worth buying?
The only fighting games that I own at the moment is BlazBlue and Dead or Alive 4, are there any others that are worth my time?
I'm looking at getting Street Fighter Anniversary Collection solely for SFIII.
If you can, get it for the Xbox.
Street Fighter IV would be my first pick, Tekken 6 would be second, as you already have BlazBlue, and they improved the netcode so online isn't as bad as it used to be, horray.
If you want to go retro... Project Justice for the DC (good luck finding it though, hehe) or Bushido Blade 2 for the PS for something completely different.
I heard that Super Street Fighter 4 is upgrade version of Street Fighter 4, so are they gonna release a disc version again or can you just download the upgrade?
" @Symphony: I heard that Super Street Fighter 4 is upgrade version of Street Fighter 4, so are they gonna release a disc version again or can you just download the upgrade? "Disc version only.
Super Street Fighter IV will be a disc release, though Capcom has said in the past that anyone that also owns the original Street Fighter IV would get some bonus out of it. Not sure what that means, though.
This generation, my favorite fighting game thus far is BlazBlue, though I still enjoy rounds of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core. Virtua Fighter 5 is another good choice.
Street Fighter 4, Blazblue, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Soul Calibur 4 (for a more relaxing fighter, as it is VERY easy to play), and Tekken 6 (this one is iffy).
Street Fighter alpha 3 is awesome! Of all the 4 or five versions of that game I've played I actually like the PSP version the best. Ok it's not for the 'Arcade perfect or die' crowd but the leveling up and skill tree system is pretty interesting, it has the widest range of game modes, and it's probably the best 1 on 1 fighting game in your pocket. Would be perfect if it wasn't for that awful d-pad.
How has nobody mentioned Marvel vs. Capcom 2? I mean, that is my favourite without exception. It's pretty cheap too through psn (and I think xbla as well). Buy it, you won't regret it. It is the single best fighting game to play with friends. It is easily accessible but also extremely deep.
Numbers don't indicate rank
1. (Super) Street Fighter 4
2. BlazBlue
3. Marvel vs Capcom 2
4. Soul Calibur 4
5. Tekken 6 (maybe... I just passed up on a $33 deal, it just doesn't seem worth it. Load times and lag are the major reasons.)

Also The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match for PS2. Coming soon to XBLA.
I would opt for these in these out of the current crop:
- Street Fighter 4
- Marvel Vs Capcom 2
- SF2HDR
- Samurai Shodown Anthology (Wii or PS2)
- Soul Calibur (XBLA or DC)
If you don't mind doing some retro hunting:
- The Last Blade (Neo Geo or PS2)
- The Last Blade 2 (Neo Geo, DC or PS2)
- Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Neo Geo or DC)
- Street Fighter 3: Third Strike or Double Impact (XBOX or DC)
- Vampire Savior (Sega Saturn) / Vampire Chronicles (DC)
- Waku Waku 7 (Neo Geo or Sega Saturn)
- Project Justice: Rival Schools 2 (DC)
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Sega Saturn or DC, or PS2)
Get the PS2 version if you need to...

Yeah, the options are great, and the game plays fine with a thumb pad stuck on your PSP. I also like the other handheld version on GBA.
I love playing Vs battles with my girlfirend, it's one of the few fighting games she can play.
Street Fighter IV is, of course, a great idea, if you like that sort of fighting. However, if you are a more 'lets waste some fools' kinda dude, then Soulcaliber IV is an ideal choice, despite the fact that Jeff gave it a perfectly valid 3, as the core fighting is great.
" None. I feel 2D style fighting games should have died with cartridges. "3d fighting games were not a revolution, just a different take on what came before.
" @MAN_FLANNEL said:Oh come now, he could be trolling but to me it seems like he was just trying to voice his opinion on fighting games." None. Your lame opinion on the genre is not being requested here. Your post simply aims to derail the thread. "
