What was the first platform you bought with your own money?

PS1.

Saved up for a year of allowances for that one. That was rather difficult, considering I usually only got $5 a week in allowance. And it usually just went to renting games at Blockbuster for the weekend.

a PC.

Xbox back in 2003.

A PlayStation. With the money from my first summer job.

SNES for me.

I mowed a lot of lawns, put up some fences, and other general maintenance around my neighborhood during the SNES and Genesis  days. I think that early industrious "I'll get it my self then..." attitude let me acquire both consoles early on, and avoid the whole console fanboy bs. While my parents bought me an NES, it never meant as much to me as the SNES and Genesis I paid for myself.

Ps2 after my original one broke down. Got a slim too so that was neat.

ps2, i traded in my n64 stuff and paid $5. i bought gta 3 and ps2.

My first console I bought with my own money was Playstation 2 after i got back from Afghanistan in 2001. I bought MGS2 as well with it

Do Tiger handhelds count? Karate King when I was 8 or so.

Never have.  I steal all the consoles I own.

Never have. For some reason all my consoles have ended up coming from birthday or christmas presents.

I won a Genesis through a Fox Kids contest when I lived in New Orleans in 1993.

As a kid i saved up about 90 dollars to buy a Super Famicom off my friend, only to realise that he sold it so cheaply because it was missing a bunch of buttons his brother pulled out.

My second 360 was the first console I bought with my own money, previously all of my consoles had been given to me as gifts. I ended up buying a PS3 after that and several handhelds.

Xbox 360. One of the first expensive items I bought when I got my first big boy job when I was 20 here in New York.

I was a spoiled rotten as a kid growing up when it came to games. The only gifts I ever wanted were games. My parents were nice enough to get me a NES, PS1, Dreamcast and Xbox through the years.

I remember saving up birthday and Christmas money to buy a Gameboy Color along with Pokemon Blue.  That was the first I ever bought with my own money.

Gamecube. Since then I've bought my PC, a DS, Xbox 360 (twice) and a 3DS.

First Xbox, I wanted halo after playing it at my neighbors house.  I mowed yards for a summer and bought it. 

Xbox 360, followed by my PC a month later.

A motherfucking Sega Saturn. I played Virtua Cop with a controller and LIKED IT.

My PS2 slim.

I bought a PS1 (with the sweet screen attachment thing) and a Gamecube on the same day. It was magical.

My original DS

I paid for half of my PS1. The first console I paid for entirely by myself was a Dreamcast.

I was actually saving up to buy a PS2, but when they announced the price I realized I would have to save up my money for another year. I then saw a Dreamcast in the store for half of the price the PS2 was going to cost when it launched so I bought that instead even though I knew nothing about it except that it was from SEGA who I of course knew about.

PlayStation 2, I was 21 and bought a 32" Samsung to go along with it. It came bundled with Final Fantasy XII, ace game.

Gameboy Colour. I think I was 13 or 14 when I bought it.

I wanna say either the Gamecube or an original Xbox...my memory is a bit hazy.

An SNES. I split the cost with my brother.

Amiga 500.
