So it's been 9 hours of 2012 here in New Zealand, but some of you are still stuck in past. So reflecting on the old year, what do you feel was your best purchase of the year? Mine would probably be my iPad because it has been great for using social media stuff when I'm not at home, browsing the web anywhere in the house and finally wanting to actually play iOS games since they feel a lot better on a 9.7" screen versus a 3.5" little thing. It's tough though, because I do like all the PC stuff I had bought this (well, last) year. I hadn't upgraded anything in it for over a year and it was getting really slow, making me want to game on the 360 (I don't want that). If I could count in things I've been sent to review, then my custom mechanical keyboard would be pretty high up there. Thing is wonderful to type on.

Anyway, what was your best purchase of 2011?

My PC. I finally reminded myself that "If you want something, spare no cost". It serves so many purposes, not least as the best gaming platform on the earf.

My PC! I'm expecting my best purchase of 2012 to be a second/new video card.

Dark Souls, got more hours out of that one game alone than everything else combined in 2011

#22 Posted by GTCknight (670 posts) -

Saints Row: The Third was the best game I've played or have seen played all year.

My 13" Macbook pro and 2x 128 SSDs for it. Since owning an XPS 13, I've fallen in love with that size/weight combination. And the Book Book case for it, so I don't look like one of those people.

Erm, yeah. I really like my MBP. If past me read this, he'd think someone hijacked my GB account.

#25 Posted by jas_8382 (29 posts) -

Saints Row: The Third because that game is absolutely amazing. Plus Rayman Origins for $30 which I am really enjoying right now.

My MSIGT780DX. Heck of a machine and made my gaming pc gather dust. SSD for life now.

My new car.

In terms of hours played it's probably Madden 12 strangely. I've had a lot of fun with a lot of games this year, so it's hard to narrow ones down.

Oh man, my friend recently bought an iPhone 3G. I keep telling him he shouldn't have and that his answer for getting it ("It's an iPhone. iPhones are cool...") was stupid because old iPhones can't do shit. Then to hear him sound so disappointed when he released he could only use it as an iPod, texting phone and fake lightsaber. Although, he is pretty syked about the lightsaber...

If you could upgrade any type of Mac like you can a PC, I'd switch to Mac OSX so fast. The Mac Pro looks like it could do this, but it really can't. I just want Microsoft to make Windows a cleaner looking OS really.

My signed Bastion OST at PAX. Not only is it an incredible soundtrack, but I was able to meet a couple of the Super Giant guys in the process of buying it. Easily the best $15 I've spent all year.

Renegade Ops and the Coldstrike campaign DLC. Second to that would be Kinect and Dance Central 2.

My macbook pro. Yep, that's my best purchase

#39 Posted by Commisar123 (1790 posts) -

Trackmania 2, that was pretty nice and a great value

#40 Posted by pornstorestiffi (4909 posts) -

Gaming wise i guess Dark Souls is my best purchase.

The mechanical keyboard I'm typing this very message on. Like my best purchase last year--a magnetic knife strip for my kitchen--it's something I use every day that's way better than the thing it replaces and makes me feel like a good, cool person when I use it.

Close runner up is the long HDMI cable I bought that enabled me to transform my PC into a next gen console.

#42 Posted by RickJames123 (54 posts) -

Surprised by how many people are saying Saints 3, I'm a little dissapointed with it (Story-Wise).

But Skyrim, best 60 bucks I've ever spent

The Binding of Isaac! Best $5 I spent in entertainment.

#44 Posted by mandude (2669 posts) -

LA Noire, I don't think I've gotten into anything else as much as that game. I wish it catered to my perfectionist qualities more, though.

#45 Posted by coakroach (2488 posts) -

Tactics Ogre: LUCT.

Brilliant game.

Probably my latest PC, which I built earlier this year. It was a pretty big upgrade and I've been very happy with it. The 27" Dell U2711 monitor I purchased later on in the year would probably come in a close second.

You could put together a hackintosh. Or reskin Windows and use something like Rocket dock.

New PC. Games are a fuckin' blessing after playing what I have on it. And by that I mean "yo, dawg? Battefield 3 multiplayer is pretty good."

#49 Posted by RecSpec (3766 posts) -

My 46" HDTV. Finally got out of the SD era.

#50 Posted by david3cm (635 posts) -

My Xbox since I could finally play all he Xbox only games I've wanted to play, then getting Renegade Ops on the Arcade was a perfect compliment since it was the game I most defiantly had the most fun with this year.
