What game got you started in playing video games? Not necessarily the first one you got but what was the one that really got you started into playing?
For me it was Dragon Warrior I way back in the 80's. I was terrible at the game and never quite got around to beating it but I was totally hooked on that type of game play.

Joe Montana Football for Genesis. My dad had it and Altered Beast
When I finally got to play it, I played Altered Beast, but my dad wouldn't let me touch it so I watched him play JMF.
I loved mimicking Joe's commentary.
"Great Catch!"
"Great Game"
"Great Play!"
Eh, Super Mario Bros. I guess? I never stopped to think that there would be a time when I wouldn't want to be playing videogames. If not that then probably one of the other Marios'.
Hey everyone glad you all jumped on this blog so quick. Would really appreciate it if everyone wold follow me and even shoot me a wall post! :) Thanks!
Hmm that would have to be Super Mario. I started playing those Mario games when I was 5 and I've been gaming ever since :)
This may sound somewhat odd, but Super Smash Bros. Melee. I played a lot of it back before Brawl took over, and eventually grew curious of just where the hell Marth and Roy came from. After finding out, I decided to play a bit of Fire Emblem, and then emulated it. My first ever emulated game was Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. That game frigging ruled, and it started a long love of Fire Emblem and gaming. Interestingly, I also grew curious about Ness' game, and decided to play Earthbound. I originally did not like it. I was an idiot, but in that regard, only.
" Super Mario Land (Nintendo GameBoy)Ohh, I remember I opened that gift first that Christmas morning...me not being the sharpest six year old, I thought Santa messed up because I didn't have a Gameboy. Guess what else I got that Christmas.

However, I received one for X-mas that year and this game (along with TNMT: Fall of the Foot Clan that came with the GB) began my life-long love of gaming." I have been playing games since I was very young starting with Super Mario Brothers, but I never really got super hardcore into gaming until I started playing Counter-Strike with some friends from school.
For me, my first major game was also my first game.
Donkey Kong Country
It's hard to say because it was pretty gradual. I had wanted a Gameboy for months after it came out, and by then I would say my mindset is much what it is now. I will say that I didn't define myself as much as someone who loved video games before I had the GameBoy, but it wasn't really Tetris that did it for me.

" A pile of archaic shite known as Loaded. "Dude, that game ruled. At least when It first came out.
Super Mario World and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
I think the first system I had was a Gameboy Colour with Pokemon Silver or something? or perhaps the PS1 we got with Formula 1 and Tekken 3. I played a bunch of PS1 games, but got hooked when I picked up my first FF game, Final Fantasy IX. It was so different to everything out there I'd been playing. The original Tony Hawk games (THPS1 & 2 on PS1) were really big in our household too as my brother was a skater back then. Was pretty big on the original Crash Bandicoot games as well, and the original Spyro. (I know I'm naming a lot of games, but my memory is struggling to single out just one major game influence)
