I'll always remember MGS.
I'll always remember MGS.
Joe and Mac for the PC it was.
Joe and Mac for the PC it was.
My first video game was this old school top down shooter with an alien theme that I played at my school's computer, along with a cavemen sidescroller with an art style that was very similar to Metal Slug, those were really magical days, I owe a lot of my passion towards computers to my teacher, I was only 8 years old and he would let us play after we were done learning DOS, ahhh... he even copied those games to floppies only to realize later that I didn't even own a computer yet. What I would give to remember the names and play them again, just for nostalgia's sake.

Then, my first console game was believe or not Metal Gear Solid at my friend's PS1, I guess I was too young to realize what a masterpiece of a game I was playing, but I could not for the life of me play it, instead I watched my friend play it, I was just in awe of how awesome it looked. Me and this friend played many games, from the NES games to the latest, or at least  the latests we could borrow from the lucky neighborhood kid. It is thanks to him, I find myself at Giantbomb watching Endurance Runs and ENJOYING IT.

So, chronologically:

  • Unknown top down shooter (first PC game)
  • Joe and Mac (first PC game)
  • Metal Gear Solid (first console game)

No, I started at the PC, back in the snes days. Not the PS1. It's just that I barely remember the names of the games I played, otherwise I'd be more specific.

I remember my dad having a NES since, well, before I can remember. So I'd got with, yep, Super Mario Bros.

OP I bet I know what your second game was : Joe & Mac Caveman Ninjas.  It was also on SNES and arcades and other platforms.  I rented it on SNES but I bought it on PC because it was cheaper.  Came in a cool stone wheel shaped box (you needed the back for the copy protection)

My first game was either Donkey Kong or Pac Man in arcades, I can't remember which myself.

Pong. Also lots of Atari, Colecovision, and Commodore 64 games (California Games and Impossible Mission were my favorites). Also played Karataka and Prince of Persia a bit when I got the chance. Damn, I just dated myself ////

Pong, as well followed by Asteroids, Space Invaders and all the rest from the golden age of coin-ops.  First console game was (not surprisingly) Atari's Combat.  First handheld was Mattel Electronic Football.  First PC (well, Apple 2 if I am going to be precise) was Oregon Trail, Lemmings, and some educational game about running a nuclear power plant.

I'm dated, too now.

Ah yes, Oregon Trail is such a classic, as was Loderunner and Carmen San Diego. There was much Broderbund game love way back then.

Probably Top Gun for NES (but I totally wasn't impressed), that was before I even had an NES, we had to rent one from the video store.  I don't think they rent consoles anymore, ha.  The first game that really got my attention was probably the first Megaman or Mario 3.

@artofwar420: Lode runner, Picadilly, Zork, and umm... some sort of weird construction set like the Incredible machine, but much older... can anyone name it?  (apple IIe stuff).

Lode runner wins for first game addiction though... then maybe prince of persia, and wing commander... then all sierra's old adventure games (especially the early space quests!)

I remember that fateful day 21 years ago. I went to my big cousins house where he had this thing. He told me it was called a Nintendo. And he had this game for it. It was called Super Mario Bros.

I remember being totally baffled at the fact that I had to press A to jump rather than UP. I mean c'mon!!!?? You have 4 direction buttons and one of those buttons is the EXACT same direction I want to be going - Up. I was only 4 years old though.

I'm not too too sure exactly which, since I was like, three years old, but it was either an oldschool AD&D PC game or Commander Keen or something.

Even though I was born when the SNES was in it's prime, my parents only had a NES when I was very young, think Legend of Zelda was the first game I played, though it may have been Super Mario Brothers, I mean, I was like 1 year old.

I also have memories of erasing my mum's Ultima 3 data, because I don't think I could read yet and I kept chosing 'New Game' instead of 'Continue'

First game we owned was Air-Sea Battle I think.  Either that or Combat.  For the 2600!

I'm not positive, but I think it was either Super Mario Bros. or Duck Hunt on NES. Either that or maybe one of those random Sesame Street games they had on the NES.

Mega Bomber Man for the Sega Mega Drive. It blew my mind. Revenge Of Shinobi and Streets Of Rage 3 also featured heavily in my education. Oh, and Pokemon Red of course...

Played: Think it was frogger, if not then it was Adventure. For Atari 2600
Owned: Either Alex Kidd, inbuilt on a Master System, or Link's Awakening for GB. Unsure as to what, I was very young.

Pong, Dragster on the Atari 2600, and my first PC game was Space Quest by Sierra. I think that's right, that was a long time ago.
